BitterSweet is a duo from the Iron Range of Northeastern Minnesota. Mary Jo Grizzard, keyboards and vocals, is from Aurora, Mn. She has performed in many groups and has toured the United States and Canada. She was based out of the Minneapolis area and performed with the group 1st Class for 20 years. Upon moving back to the Iron Range, she formed BitterSweet with Jay Hoiland. Jay plays guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals, and is from Hoyt Lakes, Mn. They were in a garage band in high school and when Mary graduated, she left the Range to pursue a career in music. Jay stayed on the Range, worked in the taconite mines and played music on the week-ends with his blues-rock group, Falcon Eddy.
This CD is a tribute to Bob Dylan by two musicians who grew up in the same area where Bob was raised. In fact, Mary now lives in Hibbing, Mn. It is not a Dylan sound-a-like CD. From Jay''s straight out rock-n-roll, to Mary''s unique blend of R&B,we have taken a fresh, modern approach to 11 classic Dylan tunes. So for all the Dylan fans worldwide, here is a new set of songs that we know you''ll all enjoy. ROCK ON!
