MP3 Engine 88 - Flies and Death 'n Stuff

Engine 88 combines the dual-guitar snarl of the Pixies with the heavy driving groove of Green Day, and tops it off with a fine lyrical frosting worthy of Jawbreaker.

Details:
Engine 88 was a highly unsung Noise Pop band who played prolifically and loudly in the San Francisco scene between 1992 and 1998. Local contemporaries included Overwhelming Colorfast, the Meices, Creeper Lagoon, Action Slacks, Van Gogh''s Daughter, and MK Ultra. During this time they released three full-length CDs and toured extensively across the US, into Canada and the UK; they shared the road and stage with bands like Jawbreaker, Jawbox, Counting Crows, the Buzzcocks, Gang of Four, the Ben Folds Five, Nada Surf and Spoon. Engine 88 was frequently compared to Pavement, Fugazi and the Pixies.

Engine 88 was Tom Barnes (vocals & guitar), Dave Hawkins (drums & vocals), Eric Knight (bass & vocals) and Damon Wood (guitar & vocals). Barnes had previously been the driving force behind Sordid Humor, a college-radio favorite that included Adam Duritz and other future members of Counting Crows.

Flies and Death ''n Stuff is the final full-length album by Engine 88, recorded in 1997 at Tiny Telephone Studio in San Francisco with Damien Rasmussen. Raw, intimate and tough, it represents the most accurate and introspective picture of this seminal alternative rock band. It was originally released on Wingnut Records in 1998.
