Jess and Jeff have remixed their last album and released it as a free download for a limited period. It’s not the usual dance remix affair though, it’s in a dub stylee. I initially thought it might be some Caribbean reggae-type crossover, but it’s not, thankfully.
What the duo have done is virtually shortened all the tracks, given them nonsense names and slowed the pace right down. The songs are nowhere near as frenetic as they were but the sound of the songs is still virtually the same albeit heavily remixed in places, some still very much up tempo (just not as much as previously). You still hear most of the sound palette used originally and some newer additions, but the main emphasis seems to be on the vocals. Not sure if Jess has redone any of the main vocal tracks, but the vocals are certainly much more prominent in the mix than before, layered over a more solid bass backing.
As with the original album, the strength of the group, and the reason why this album works as well as it does, is down to the sound design. In some places it sounds virtually the same, in others a bit different but there’s still quite a lot going on.
