Love is the Light

Inspiration for the songs:

Love is the LIght - this is the first song with lyrics that I ever wrote. I find that it still rings true for me 26 years later.

Eagle Soars - sitting on the steps of my teacher’s home waiting for her to return for my voice lesson, the wind was blowing and that experience merged with a dream I had just had about a 6-foot tall eagle.

I Am - I received this song very simply as a Native American type of chant-like song with just the rattle accompaniment and no drum. It has since been performed in quite a variety of ways: by a 60 voice choir at the Sunday morning service at an annual Unity Conference at Asilomar, CA where it got a standing ovation, by elementary school children using Orff instruments, and by a father and his two sons as a blue grass style song that everybody got up and danced to. It shared first place at a New Thought regional song writing competition in Olympia, WA in 1989.

One Voice In The Silence - written as an exercise at a Carolyn Conger seminar using a Native American song writing technique.

The Poppy - inspired by a friend’s dream and knowing that I had to let go of our friendship

Storm - as my flight descended into Seattle, I was impressed by the shift from above to below the clouds, thinking about how the sun is always shining, regardless of the presence of heavy cloud cover

Blossoms and Hugs - I woke up one morning with song for a church gathering celebrating spring to be held in an apple orchard later that day. Months later, at a choir rehearsal, one of the members’ daughter (5 yrs. old) said that she agreed with this song. She said that she was older and still needed hugs.

Rose Colored Glasses - facing a difficult situation, knowing that I needed to speak my truth

Special Friends - an experience I’ve had over and over since I first wrote the song - that sense of instant connection and deep communion with someone.

Come & Dance With Me - written as a wedding present for my gifted art therapist, Doug Gilbert, and his wife just at the time I was becoming aware that I would be ending my marriage
