Dan Papirany (b.1967, Tel Aviv, Israel) is a Jazz pianist and a composer whose compositions include some references and ideas borrowed from contemporary tunes and standard harmonies.
In 1999 Dan graduated from university with a bachelor of music performance (Jazz Piano). Dan started performing with his own trio in Wellington at local bars, sometimes performing in a duo format at local hotels.
In 2002 Dan moved to Auckland taking a position of music HOD at Hato Petera College. Dan has recently recorded two new trio albums. The first album which was nominated for New Zealand music award comprised of standard tunes and is titled "Session one". The second album titled "Session Two - Originals" is comprised of originals only.
This session was recorded in March 2004, it is the first session of the Dan Papirany Trio consists of Dan Papirany on Piano and a sensitive rhythm section including: Pete McGregor on Bass and Owen Kneebone on Drums. The trio has a great interaction and together makes a beautiful musical statement in the spirit of the Bill Evans Trio.
