Translit is a method of encoding Cyrillic letters with Latin ones. The term stems from transliteration, a method used by interpreters to TRANSLATE OTHERWISE UNTRANSLATABLE words such as names or geographical locations. tRaNsLiT is a music project created by Andrei Smourov and Gleb Schennikov in 2004. Both - Russians living in Amsterdam. Andrei writes songs and attempts to sing them (rather badly but passionately), Gleb provides the accompanying musical chaos. The duo''s live performances (in Europe and Russia) have been marked by mixed reactions from the crowd (if present) and a high level of enthusiasm and energy coming from the musicians. The first album, "Literali", was released in 2005 and up to this point enjoys a very limited share of commercial success, which is hardly surprising given the album''s length, confusing structure and the quality of singing. The second album, "The Shores", is released in December 2006 and is a more appreciated musical product - by the (still rather limited) fan-base, as well as by the musicians themselves. As of spring 2007 Gleb Schennikov is no longer part of tRaNsLiT. In May 2008 Andrei went to Haifa (Israel) where new material was finally recorded with the help of fantastic local musicials: Urik (violin), Igor (guitar), Mihalkin (bass), Sergei (drums). The recording of the new album was initiated and organised by Gosha Hniu, a London-based musician and sound engineer. The new record is currently being mixed in London and should be released towards the end of 2008.
