Details:
Harriet Goldberg is a songwriter from the Boston area. Her debut CD, "Bring Back the Moonlight," contains original ballads, bossas, and swing tunes in the style of old standards. It placed fourth in the vocal jazz category of the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Her song "Suddenly You Walked By," placed 2nd in the 11th Billboard Songwriting Contest. In addition to distributing her CD, Ms. Goldberg is searching for talented jazz and cabaret vocalists to perform or record her material.

Ms. Goldberg has studied jazz, as well as classical piano. Her music has been featured at the MAC/ASCAP Songwriters'' Showcase, in Boston Sings Boston III, a cabaret of original material by Boston songwriters, in NOMTI''s (New Opera & Musical Theater Initiative) 2004 Birth of a Musical Cabaret, at Boston''s well-known jazz venue, the Regattabar, and at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center.

Ms. Goldberg''s CD of original music is performed by two talented Boston/Providence vocalists, Debra Mann and Cassandre McKinley. Each singer offers a unique style and quality to the material. Ms. Mann is a pianist, as well as a singer. Her lush, low register vocals recall the sound of Diana Krall. Her renditions of Ms. Goldberg''s ballads and bossas are hypnotic. Ms. McKinley''s style recalls that of Peggy Lee. There is a haunting intensity to the slow tunes she performs. And she really swings on "Suddenly You Walked By."

The musicians include Billy Novick, an inspired clarinetist and alto sax player who also arranged and produced the CD. His solos add another dimension to the music - beautiful on the ballads, and playful on the swing tunes. Paul Schmeling has been head of the piano department at Berklee College of Music for many years. His lush chords and piano solos add a touch of magic to the tunes he plays on. Ms. Mann plays piano for about half of the numbers. She augments her rich voice with a steady rhythm and beautiful, thoughful solos. Marshall Wood and John Lockwood each provide a strong, steady bass. The talented Jim Gwin and Bill Reynolds on drums round out this group of inspired musicians.
