Went to work...
During an early April walk through Bessie Goldsmith''s Woods in the southern part of Andover, where ice and snow still covered the ground in the more dense parts of the wood, I came to a path along Foster''s Pond. As I walked this path, I paused for a moment to watch a dark leaf softly land in one of the small sunlit patches on the ground. What I had first thought was a leaf turned out to be a butterfly, a Mourning Cloak, and as I watched her slowly flex her delicate black wings, this music was born...
This is an ode to springtime in New England, to all things green and growing. Remembering and honoring the old ways - that the turning of a leaf tells of life and worlds beyond imagination! One just needs to ride on the wings of a dragonfly.
