"Do you want to play drums?" asked my friend who was starting a band back in 1994. "Well, alright," I replied. It was the start of my journey through music.

Not that this band in particular did anything. We were pretty bad actually. But, it is what planted the seed that would ignite my own ambitious passion for music. Steven was not the same kid after that.

After this band flopped and we quit practicing together, my best friend Bradley and I continued to write and play music together. My father purchased me a drum set to encourage me to continue with music. One day in 1995 we decided that we should find someone else to play with us. We were sophomores in high school and had the lucky opportunity of being in the same Algebra I class where we met Bill, a drummer in the school band. Thus we decided to ask him to play for us. This was the birth of The Muppies--a band that had marginal success, but more than anything loved playing together.

Unfortunately when a deal with a radio station fell through, our hopes were dashed and it appeared that so were The Muppies. Bradley and I still continued to play music together for fun and I kept writing music with a renewed energy. Several of these songs hung around long enough to be included on some of the earlier albums I produced. We all went our separate ways when we graduated high school (literally) and for a while I did not write or play music that much. I moved to Argentina where I spent two years in a beautiful country.

When I returned from Argentina, I began writing music again, and got back into the love, passion, and emotion of music. It was at this point that a friend introduced me to the world of recording. Excited by the potential, I launched an extensive effort to revisit dozens of songs I had written over the years. I recorded and copyrighted two albums of sixteen songs each, named simply "Steven" and "Steven Again." I came back to these songs many times, re-recording and editing in an obsessive-compulsive fashion until I had two CDs that I was ready to present as finished products.

One day I was showing this music to a friend of mine who inquired how I recorded all of the music myself, without other musicians playing with me. I explained to her that during recording, I could record a track, go back and record another track on top of that, go back and record yet another track, etc so that I could record all of the instruments and vocals myself. The particular song I was showing her had four tracks on it, which prompted her to remark, "So it''s like there''s four Stevens." And that is where the name Four Stevens comes from.

The first CD by Four Stevens is named "The Legend of the Muppies" in honor of the band that was a conduit to so much song writing and enjoyment. The second album is named "The Tales from 7th EAST" because in my apartment on 7th EAST I did the majority of the recordings that appear in my first two albums. Most of the songs on the third album were written during times of sorrow, reflection, nervousness, lonliness, or fear. Therefore, it bears the name "The Happiness Myths." Ironically, it ended up being released at one of the happiest times of my life as I got ready to marry my love, Luci.

I love music. I always will. It is a passion that I feel which is relentlessly unsatisfiable. I hope the music I have created for you conveys meaning and evokes emotion. That is my intent as an artist.

Keep an eye out for forthcoming albums from Four Stevens!
