Details:
Skull King Mongoose:-

The identity of the people/person behind Skull King Mongoose is irrelevant. Skull King Mongoose is merely a front. The people/person behind the front use Skull King Mongoose as a mask. It is a mask of great antiquity, steeped in mystery and intrigue. But what does this mask represent? For the people behind the mask at least, it is a license to experiment in music without care or consideration to genre or style.

While Skull King Mongoose may claim to be without genre or style, some recognisable elements of music are noticeable. Melodies resembling Stravinsky or Shostakovich often come into the sight, as do some medieval or Arabic colours. Structurally, it has been noted that moods, dynamics and sounds can shift dramatically within the boundaries of a single piece of music. Others have observed that film music is also present in the music of Skull King Mongoose, particularly the music of Lalo Schifrin. The people/person behind Skull King Mongoose was previously unaware of any such element to its music, but now recognises this comparison as a valid observation. Moondog and Sun Ra could also be considered a slight influence as could Eric Dolphy and early 20th classical composers.

There is also a vast range of themes, purposes and subjects behind the music. From telling stories to absolute music to instrument manipulation, Skull King Mongoose endeavours to keep all it creates fresh and different from work to work. There are also hints of an interest in folklore, mythology and escapism throughout the music as well as a fascination with cold, harsh, scientific and empirical reasoning.

Most of these pieces are purely instrumental, resourcing off many musical devices, most notably guitars, piano, flute, clarinet, viola, oboe and many different types of percussion. Electronic apparatus and effects are usually avoided although they are not completely ruled out.

There you have it. Skull King Mongoose is merely a mask, behind which its creators tinker and experiment. Their goal is to devise interesting, thought-provoking, hypnotic, weird and beautiful music of no apparent traceable origin.

Forces:-

The idea behind this album was to create a sort of theatre piece that would never appear on stage. It regales a tale about a small town by the sea and how the forces of nature affect their lives. While this is the first Skull King Mongoose album to feature vocals, it still relies on the instrumentation to invoke and portray the various moods and actions of the story. Utilising instruments such as acoustic guitars, woodwind, piano and cymbals, the resulting sound is one of a rusty, wooden, battered landscape. The songs and deeds of humanity can be heard buried deep within the blind power of nature, highlighting man’s place within this world.
