MP3 Heretic's Fork - Heretic's Fork

They will take you on a journey to the darkest corners of your mind with their slow, dark, drudging grooves.

6 MP3 Songs
METAL: Doom/Stoner Metal, ROCK: Hard Rock

Details:
Heretic''s Fork was formed in Southeastern New England in the spring of 2001. Influences include - but not limited to - The Melvins, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Type O Negative, Pink Floyd, Tool, Soundgarden and 60''s and 70''s Sci-Fi/Horror flicks, as well as mutual disdain for the ubiquitous mainstream/corporate rock machine currently polluting the airwaves.

Despite their "heavy" influences, the band manages not to sound like any one band, or bands, in particular. Instead, what they have created on their moody, self-titled debut CD is an amalgam of ethereal soundscapes; brooding, hypnotic tribal rhythms; and plodding Godzilla-like riffs. The vocals are at once haunted and haunting, evocative of a baleful, heretic monk sprung from so many centuries in a vault.

Their lugubrious sound has prompted one local critic to issue the following remarks: "...they are in a genre unto themselves. Perhaps it should be called ''funeral dirge''..." And yet another has proclaimed, "these guys are off the clock....definitely for a higher audience!"

The six songs ( 43 minutes of music ) appearing on their debut CD make up the core of their live performances in and around the greater Providence, RI and Southeastern Massachusetts music scene. In fact, their shows have been known to attract and captivate certain elements of their audience, while unnerving others, causing them to slump away in a haze of bewildered, incomprehensible disgust. Forgive them, for they haven''t a clue!

Unfortunatly a two minute sample does not give the listener a fair dose of where these songs go. These songs are a journey unto themselves and very long. Longer downloads available at https://www.tradebit.com

Here''s some reviews:

This is some top notch DOOM here, with heavy atmospheric interludes. As a whole the disk is a dark journey through a foresaken soundscape that brings the listener closer to oblivion with each auditory step. Music to go to sleep by, if you want to dream about the End of the World.

Heretic''s Fork: Did you know this is the name of a medieval torture? May those priests burn in hell... well they surely will.
Anyway, Heretic''s fork is also the name of a doom-metal band capable of a rather fresh and interesting production... their sound is undeniably "dark" but yet it''s got a certain appeal, that can attract those not particularly fond of this sub-genre in the big family of rock, sub-genre called doom.
The record is always interesting throughout the 6 tracks, and I''m sure you have to add a point to my overall evaluation if you''re in love with the heavier and darker side of rock!
But heretic''s fork is not only that, they also have a good amount of "dark-psychedelia" in their songs, which surely makes the song more interesting.
Well done heretics, just show me what you can do next... I expect a lot from you!

This is quite some heavy stuff these guys are doing. I would say a mixture out of traditional Doom and new school Heavy-Rock. It´s like Saint Vitus would meet Kyuss on Downers...yes...that´s maybe the best way to describe the music of Heretic´s Fork. Six nicely arranged tracks full of heaviness and emotion and that all in a really good quality full of power and energy. I love the quiet parts a lot on this CD...it´s a bit like Sons Of Otis...really jammy and spaced out. This is music for the doomed generation....BUT...also for Heavy and Space-Rock fans. Good debut!!!

If Heretic''s Fork is any indication, it looks like the influence of one of Rhode Island''s favorite sons, H.P. Lovecraft, has pervaded the whole southeastern New England region. These guys show some serious aptitude when it comes to playing heavy, doom-laden dirges loaded with atmosphere to the point that someday I expect to hear their music in a film soundtrack as some obscure cult calls forth its ancient gods.

Although the CD artwork - heavy on the skulls and crosses, thank you - is pretty much straight orthodox doom, the musical influences tell a somewhat different story. ''Seed,'' for example, begins all atmospheric and doomy, shifting into a Melvins-like break, overlaid with bellowed, trance-inducing vocals reminiscent of Sleep''s ''Dopesmoker.'' This is followed by ''Minus One,'' and if you like the live version of Floyd''s ''Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,'' you''ll love this dirge-like tune as it lurches to its final climax. In addition, you''ll hear lots of Tool and Sabbath mixed into the proceedings, not to mention the heavy sonic experimentation of ''Aphasiapersilence.''

The packaging on this puppy is professional, and so is the sound quality and musicianship. You know, it''s a pity to think that a band like this, who could play most make you hear on the radio under the table, is toiling away in New England. You can right the karmic balance by contacting these dudes to pick up on some heavy-duty melancholy. After all, if Lovecraft were alive today, I''d be willing to bet that he''d do the same.
