Details:
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 2003, this singer/songwriter has been steadily building a fan base in western Canada. Her debut CD, "first blush" was recorded with multi-Juno award winner Dan Donahue in Winnipeg, and has been receiving radio play on university stations and CBC radio across Canada since its release in March of 2005. A handful of great guest musicians, including Richard Moody on viola, and Rodrigo Munoz on congas, contribute to this recording''s full sound. Inspired background vocals are provided by Dan Donahue, Ilena Zaramba, and Heather herself.
Heather''s songwriting and vocals are most often compared to Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, and Maria Muldaur, but her style is truly unique. Her songs are difficult to categorize, but are most often described as jazz, folk, and R&B-influenced. With song subjects ranging from baseball to synesthesia, listeners are left guessing what will come out of her mouth next. Her eclectic style is not surprising when you consider her background as a classically-trained pianist, folk guitarist, and jazz vocalist. She has recently captured the attention of many original music-lovers after winning the Grand Prize at Calgary''s first Songwriters'' Mic Contest in November 2004, and earning a "judges'' discretionary prize" in the Ship & Anchor/Calgary Folk Music Festival Songwriting Contest, in the "Best Song" category in May 2005.
