Details:
Jacques Chancy was born in the city of Gros-Morne, Northwest of Haiti. From a very young age, his talents for music and painting were obvious. Jacques was only nine years old when he first played drums in front of an audience. He mastered the French horn and trumpet while in high school.

For a while, he left music and was taking private lessons in drawing and water coloring. In 1979, he decided to make music his life, and with dedication and perseverance, he was ready to make his name on stage as a saxophonist.

1n 1996, he began college after offering his service to many Haitian bands. While studying, he’s earned many awards and, in 1999, he received the best musician award from Mercer County Community College.

Now, with a Bachelor degree in Music Education and a teaching license, he is working for the East Windsor Regional School District in the state of New Jersey where he lives. Jacques has a strong belief in education. His philosophy is “Education is to the mind what light is to the eyes”. Since the summer of 2001, he started a program for young musicians in Haiti where he offers free music seminars, distributes books and music accessories.

He is still enjoying the release of his first instrumental CD entitled “Cry for Love”. As one of the pioneers of the roots movement in Haiti with Group Ça, he calls the style played on the CD “FOJA” that is a mixture of Haitian folklore and Jazz.
