This marks the second CD release for the duo of Andy Rampulla and Mark DiMarcangelo. Their debut album, which was marketed in January 2007, was entitled Ballads of Love. Andy and Mark returned to the studio with alacrity to begin working on this new addition to their catalogue in February 2007. They felt led to continue their eclectic approach featuring jazz standards, Christian worship tunes and original music. Their intention was to primarily worship the one true and living triune God through their musical offerings while blessing discriminating audiophiles with a plethoric palette of sound. In contradistinction to their initial recording, this CD features a quantum advancement in song production as well as procurement and employment of state of the art digital recording software. Mark and Andy are the sole studio musicians utilizing virtual “sidemen” and computerized synthesis. With the exception of mastering, this album is ostensibly “home grown” from song arrangement and recording through mixing and album art design.

This album was pure joy for me. I am grateful to the Savior for blessing me with this musical venture. With God, all things are possible. We offer these songs to Him as a sacrifice of worship. My prayer is that this sonic tapestry will truly bless those who listen to these aural offerings. This CD is dedicated to my beloved wife of 30 years, Sheila, who graciously bestowed to me the gift of countless hours away from her and our children that allowed this opus to come to fruition. Also, my love goes to my four wonderful progeny who have continuously blessed their parents time after time—Katie, Andrew, Jonathan and Emily-Anne. AM Jazz Worship: (MD) My thoughts in composing this piece was to create a worship song in the idiom of smooth jazz. You can hear the “joy” of the redeemed through Andy’s mellifluous interpretation. I also enjoyed his MIDI responsorial to my B3 exegesis on the bridge.
The Shadow of Your Smile: (AR) This haunting song has always been one of my favorite melodies. Mark does an outstanding job on the piano. He really sets the atmosphere of the song and makes it very easy for me to interpret the feeling of the tune. What a rich melody line!
Our Love is Here to Stay: (MD) My parents gave me a biography about George Gershwin one Christmas. I remember be intrigued with this book and ultimately his jazz standards became a staple of my piano repertoire. In the interlude, I drifted away from Gershwin’s motif and chromatically invoked a prayerful improvisation.
He’s Always Been Faithful: (MD) This beautiful number represents Sara Groves’ musings on one of the greatest hymns of the Christian faith, Great is Thy Faithfulness. In fact, she incorporated the verse of this hymn in the midsection of her song. We took the liberty of adding the hymn’s chorus as the coda of our rendition. This is a reprise of Andy’s saxophone soliloquy featured in Ballads of Love.
Spirit Sax Worship: (AR) This prophetic song came out one evening as I was worshiping the Lord.
Besame Mucho: (MD) This lovely melody, penned by a Mexican songstress in the early 20th century, has been covered by a myriad of musicians over the decades. We decided to rightly return it to its Latin roots by implementing provocative percussive elements and Spanish guitar inflections.
It Was a Very Good Year: (MD) While this song has been covered by other crooners, Francis Albert Sinatra placed his signature indelibly on this melancholy melody. Although the lyrics invoke a sense of nostalgia and retrospective, my abiding hope is that the best is yet to come for those whose eyes have been opened to the Gospel.
Misty: (MD) When reviewing the crème de la crème of jazz standards, this tune is “haute cuisine” all the way. My parents are music lovers and the diurnal spinning of LPs on the Hi Fi phonograph in our house comprised the soundtrack of my earlier years. Erroll Garner records were a mainstay in our record collection along with Dave Brubeck, Peter Nero, and Oscar Peterson.
AM Blues: (MD) I have always enjoyed playing blues songs and the idea arose to write my own version with a sound reminiscent of mid 20th century bebop. Andy did a great job of creating a sax duet fortifying the figures of this twelve bar indigo progression.
Shout to the Lord: (MD) This is a magnificent contemporary anthem of Christianity. Our response to God’s amazing grace is to shout our praises to Him. In the middle of this arrangement, my orchestration veered away from the rote melody into a somewhat meditative section implying that His kindness leads us to repentance and fullness of joy.
Il Passione: (MD) In this pseudo-classical piece, I wanted the ivories and ebonies to express the passion of Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
My Funny Valentine: (MD) Valentine’s Day has always been special in our marriage and in our household. This jazz standard evokes for me the memories of hearts, flowers and romance.
Pace di Dio: (MD) In this composition, I wanted to sonically paint my interpretation of the peace of God. His peace surpasses all human comprehension.
Are You Lonesome Tonight?: (AR) I just love the melodic line of this song so much that I had to make it my own. To me the words express a longing from the Father for us to come back to Him. His love is never ending. He will wait patiently for us to return to Him.
