Details:
I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, exposed to the various musical traditions that echo that mountain heritage, among them, blue grass, country, gospel and folk. Like so many of my generation, I love rock music, rhythmically and lyrically, and that style in combination with the "organic" musical sounds I grew up with, helped lay the foundation for my own musical style.
My song writing comes from an insatiable need to respond creatively to life. I wrote my first song for piano when I was about 12 years old and I wrote off and on throughout my teenage years into adulthood. However, it was during a frustrating battle with post natal depression in 2005 that I turned to writing music as a way to remain somewhat sane (not quite there yet). I write songs to process my own experiences, but also to comment on the world we live in, and to attempt in the limited way I can, to interpret others’ lives and the choices that we all make. The lyrics mostly tell stories about life--love, loss, frustration, and triumph—things that pretty much every person can relate to.
