Details:
Prabir and The Substitutes latest release "Five Little Pieces" is an explosion of pop music. On this record the band tried to fuse together all of their favorite sounds and tones. The result is a nine song pop-gem. Each track is filled with lush harmonies which accent their on-going obsession with the Beach Boys and the Beatles. Furthermore, the band moves into a mid 70s soul era by ushering in songs such as "when was the last time?" and "no more pretty girls for me". The soul heavy songs partner well with the fifties influenced rock-a-billy songs such as "Bad Days Are A Comin''" and "These Shoes Keep Walking You Back To Me". The first track, "The Kiss", is a good sum up for the record. A simple count off and away we go into a harmony filled groove. The song itself is about the few moments before the first kiss, giving it an innocent or romantic flair. The tracks following it however all tend to be lyrically on the darker side despite the bright pop music that surrounds the singing. There''s a barber shop quartet song in the middle, "Everybody Falls In Love With You". The range of this record is proof that the band is well on its way to finding their own sound and are ready to be serious pop-main stays in American underground pop music.
