Hookhead-Dually released 4/01/04 on Silver Ant Records, Mpls.,MN.
Hookhead''s latest release, "Dually", is a collaboration with upright bassist Brad Konkel. Using the wizardry of modern technology, the duo were able to fill out their bass and guitar combination with Rhodes, drums, pedal steels, and even a neglected VW hood or two(take that kitchen sink). What resulted was a genre jumping collection of songs. From the sing along electric folk sweetness of opener "Montreal" to the paranoid rambling of blues 12 string closer " Rusty Razor", hardly an american styling is missed. The country boogie woogie of "5 Miles To Go" and the dub waltz of "Dog Like Me" somehow don''t feel awkward along side the the fat lip blues of "Soul Headed Woman". And it all can be listened to in less time than it takes to make and eat a bowl of Malto-Meal.
"Okay, so, in the summer of ''78, when Pete Rose was on that hitting spree, I lodged a fishing lure into the back of my head. My Dad decided that I should be called hookhead from then on. It didn''t hurt." -Case
Thomas Case played in the Minneapolis countryfolkrockblues band the Cedar Waxwings. He then played with the somewhat regionally famous band, The Delilahs. He lost the keys to the van in a melee and they subsequently broke up. Currently he is one of Molly Maher''s most disbelievable Disbelievers and guitarist in the band Shimmy.
Brad Konkel played in the local brit pop band The Camdens. He also fills in as a Disbeliever and rounds out the hookhead and Mare trio. He has a really nice boat.
"The idea was to really not spend too much time thinking it out. We basically wrote the songs and recorded them as they came. Hence the different sounds and styles. Some were recorded analog(birthday cake) some digitally(ho-hos). But when it comes down to it, it''s just getting the songs down so someone in a 100 years can find it and laugh at us."
recent performances; The Fine Line(mpls.), The Zephyr(salt lake), The Mermaid(new orleans, Uncommon Ground(chicago), Reed St.(milwaukee), The Uptowner(memphis), Alamo(athens), Fitgers(duluth), pointsinbetween.
"Alough Dually"s 10 songs were recorded at different times and in different ways, they hang together beautifully because of their common rootsy feel and Case''s consistently strong songwriting..."
