The new Hot Souse CD Say When is in the can and available for consumption. This Ohio based 7-piece has finally brought something from the studio that does justice to their live show. All tracks were recorded at the Chillicothe Recording Workshop -- training ground for a number of Grammy-award-winning producers and engineers -- with the incomparable Greg Jennings at the board. Souse fans should be pleased with the results. The professional sound would make any self-respecting national act proud, but Say When also strikes the perfect balance between the band''s musical chops and live energy. In short, it''s a damn good listen -- set up just like one of Souse''s live shows as they kick things off with the organ combo classic "Funky Mama" and close with a spirited take on the bop standard "Jumpin'' with Symphony Sid" (crowd control courtesy of Officer O''Malley... don''t ask!). I won''t list every highlight sandwiched between those two red-hot instrumentals... although I''ll confess that, in a more perfect world, "Uphill Rider" would be a radio staple and Laura''s perfect take on Route 66 would be required listening in local schools. Let''s just say every band member is silly about what Souse put down over several fun-filled and booze-fueled weekends this fall at "the little studio that could," just minutes away from the crown jewel of Ohio''s state park system, Pike Lake (I think that''s where Johnny Paycheck hid out after shooting a guy in Hillsboro). But I digress... Do yussef a favor and snatch this sucka up, before supplies are confiscated by Officer O''Malley for copyright infringement.
