My name is Kevin Huffman. I have lived in Tennessee for almost 30 years. I wrote this tribute; back in February 2003, as I watched our troops deploy to the Persian Gulf. I have always been very patriotic. I am respectful to all of our veterans. I wanted to do something that could show my gratitude, not just to the troops now, but to all who have ever served for our country.
I am very proud to have written this tribute. I have already played it at Veterans'' Day celebrations in parts of the country. At every base or convention center, it was well recieved by all who attended. One celebration in particular, was in Indiana. After "I Was There" was played for the thousands of Vietnam veterans, one soldier said that he wanted that to be played at his funeral. He passed away only two weeks later. He got his wish. It was played for his funeral. That same night at the Indiana convention, the tribute had to be played several more times because of frequent request to do so. They ended up driving around the building on a golf cart and playing it from stereo and speakers that had been setup on the cart.
I also have a buddy, who is a Vietnam veteran too, who recieved this CD. He came to me, after hearing it. With tears in his eyes, he said that he was proud of that cd and wanted to thank me for writing it. That touched my heart when I heard that; because the reason that I wrote this tribute was to just somehow, in my own small way, say thank you for all the sacrifices that all our militay have made for our lives and our freedom.
A former Major General, who helped liberate France in World War II, said that he has never heard a song, of any kind, that pays tribute to all servicemen and women of all the U.S. wars, like "I Was There". He said that most songs cover one specific war or group, but this tribute covers them all.
From 1775 til the present, our history is what makes us who we are today. Our armed forces are what made up the biggest part of that history. No matter what the cause, in peacetime or in war, our soldiers served. For that, they are heroes to us all.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this tribute. To all servicemen and women..........thank you, from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you all!
