Details:
"Unidirectional" is the third solo record from Australian born, American based vocalist/producer Hugh Wilson.
Essentially a collection of love songs, Hugh sings and writes emotive, inspiring and infectiously catchy pop/rock pieces, exploring love and throwing in a few prayers to his God while he''s at it. You can hear the "child of the 80''s" in Hugh''s music, with INXS, U2 and other influences becoming apparent. Melodic, emotive, atmospheric, rhythmic and catchy.
In the liner notes, we see that the album is a genuinely independent work from a remarkably talented individual. Hugh wrote 9 songs himself, and co-wrote the other 5. He played most of the instruments, recorded mixed and mastered it - all on a G4 laptop. The way of the future. Empowered individuals churning out music to please themselves, doing it the way they hear it and want it. David Gray, Pete Yorn, Hugh Wilson. A new tradition of artists, singers writers making melodic music on their own terms.
Hugh''s history is interesting. He last was heard on Australian airwaves with the band "Vertigo" on the song ''Forever Lately'', a then popular staple on Video Hits, and Melbourne radio. But the band broke up (reforming as ''Invertigo'') and Hugh made his way from Sydney to Singapore, and then New York City, forging his way as a producer of cutting edge gospel music (christian electronica!) and talented session vocalist, where Hugh was hired as a vocal chameleon for countless commercials.
From Sydney, to the Pilbara, to Singapore, and now New York City, Hugh has lived, gathered influences and put them into song. Strong vocals, strong songs, Unidirectional is a quality record that deserves to be in as many home and car stereos as possible.
