Details:
The band

Since their inception in 1998, MUTE has always been about playing the music they love without compromise. Marc-Antoine Bastien, Louis Cyphère, Étienne Dionne and Jean-Philippe Lamonde gave MUTE its own signature: a fast, melodic and technical punk rock carefully crafted over the years throughout countless rehearsals and gigs.

The beginnings

Born in Quebec City, the group members developed their talent by working on covers of bands they liked before moving on to writing their own songs. Blending the various influences of each member, the result has attracted comparisons to such bands as Craig’s Brother, Satanic Surfers and Lagwagon. Their lyrics speak of personal experiences sometimes exploring social issues.

The band recorded its first demo in 2000 and an EP entitled Blueprints in 2001 at the Champoux studio in Cap-Rouge. This record drew very enthusiastic reviews from all over the province of Quebec and the band performed as many shows as they could to promote the album. Their live performances have often been praised for their intensity. MUTE has even shared the stage with famous bands like Ten Foot Pole, Bigwig, Craig’s Brother, Much The Same, Rise Against and their personal heroes, Satanic Surfers.

The assertion

The band returned to the studio in 2003 to record its first full-length album, Sleepers. Quebec City’s Milk and Cookies records released it in early 2004. Sleepers was an instant success among the punk rock community. MUTE’s new-found fame and growing recognition led the band to Musique Plus (Quebec’s MTV). The release was followed by several Eastern Canada tours.

The ascent

In 2005 something unexpected happened: an invitation to do the entire 1-2-3 Punk Tour next to the wondrous band Rise Against. Seizing the opportunity, MUTE produced their second music video for the song “The Pillar” and by doing so launched it at “Musique Plus” during a complete show dedicated to the band.

They never stopped and became an important figure of the Canadian punk rock scene in 2006 and 2007. MUTE gave more than a hundred concerts during this period of time, including a coast to coast Canadian tour, three tours in eastern Canada and of course many shows in the province of Quebec.

The Raven

In January 2008 MUTE goes back to record their third opus “The Raven”. Jef Fortin from BadAss Studio was in charge of the production because of the energetic and aggressive tone given to his productions (Neuraxis, Anonymus).
Bearing the most aggressive songs up to now, this brand-new album takes on a speed of execution and a technical level nothing can compare with in the punk rock world!

Looking forward

MUTE will be releasing their third CD on July 19th 2008 and right after, will be starting another Canadian tour from July 24th to august 23rd in order to promote this album.

Keeping in mind a third music video and a lot more tours in the future, MUTE is and will remain a force to be reckoned within the punk rock world.
