Jason Burton is a singer/songwriter who, for over 9 years now, has been touring and releasing cd’s and pointing people to Jesus. Whether leading a group of people in singing a song of praise in a church on Sunday or singing one of his original songs, Jason’s heart beat is to raise the banner of truth through music.
Just 29 years old and newly married, Jason finds himself gearing up to begin promoting and sharing a brand new batch of songs from his newest cd called “Breaking Through”. Recorded in early 2008 in Columbia, SC, this is the 2nd solo cd Jason has recorded since he and his sister stopped making music together in 2005. Jason and his sister, Sarah, made up a duo called Belief, and they put out 3 different cd’s. Belief spent 5 years on the road and even had 2 top 20 national radio singles.
“Breaking Through” offers 11 original songs that range from powerful worship in the lead single to radio, “Long Live The King”, to folksy/pop in the hooky anthem for imperfect people called “Broken Things”. This cd also has the first love song that Jason has ever recorded for his wife, Kristi. It’s called “You’re My Friend”. Jason says, “I am very excited about what God has planned to do with this group of songs to encourage His people, lead them in worship, convict them of sin, and offer the hope of mercy found in the blood of Jesus.”
Jason and Kristi now travel all over the country together. Kristi plays violin and taught private lessons in Rapid City, SD, where she is originally from. They met in the Spring of ’07 while Jason was out in South Dakota on tour. She plays violin on 3 songs on the new cd and even sings some backing vocals on the new disc, as well as in concert. They were married in January of 2008 and immediately began leading worship and touring together and recently completed a month and a half long tour that took them to Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio, and South Dakota. With the release of the new cd more touring and ministering is planned for the rest of 2008.
“We believe that the Lord Jesus is looking for those who will stand up and be counted for the Kingdom. We are not ashamed of our Savior and we make music to honor Him and for His glory,” they say. Often compared to artists like Fernando Ortega, Andrew Peterson, Shane and Shane, and Todd Agnew, Jason’s music has a pop feel with hints of folk in it. In concert, armed with a guitar and violin, Jason and Kristi share stories behind the songs, share what God is doing in their lives, and lead those there in worship of the King.
