ROCK: Folk Rock, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
New songs, remixed songs, live songs, remastered songs, reflecting some of what what we were doing in the summer of 2004: so what were we doing in the summer of 2004?

Some scribbly type notes on the songs that may help:

rainbow - a very old and strong (i think) mood song that has changed hardly at all over the years. probably would benefit from a full studio workout but i like this version with the tech drum and cod-rock jazz guitar sound and Ali''s vocal soaring over the top.

silence - remixed and remastered up from a dat tape demo recorded at muffels in germany october 2002. power chords add a little extra drama to what is a pretty good vocal performance. there is a lot of buried emotion in this song from Ali, she wrote these lyrics in July 2002. thanks also to martin.

do what thou wilt - neither a tribute nor a triumph, a warning or a piece of bleak commentary. they are sneaking into your town, your schools, your local organisations and maybe your family right now and sadly they won''t easily go away.

i''m fine - surely it''s every songwriter''s dream to have that big old number one c&w hit that makes them a million and is covered by the great and good for the next twenty five years, this ramshackle song could be ours.

wip - live with enhancements, estrangements, instruments, accompaniments and some enjoyment. recorded by cloudland blue quartet aka david reilly (cbq)in edinburgh.

rainy friday - the everyday life story and experience of the good people of central scotland and in particular the village we live in. we don''t try to patronise, we don''t judge, we are part of this same scenery, well some of the time anyway. (recorded by cbq)

how i hate - a live work-out that relaxes and warms us up and has some nicely darkened overtones buried and blurred into it. my favourite little live song, which bounces along nicely, even in this live "at the waverley" version. Thank you cbq of crispycat recordings.

damage - well it was slightly damaged in the great upheaval but some blu-tack and drinking straws and cocktail sticks almost fixed it. famous for odd use of diminished chords and one finger flamenco pastiche. had to save the vocal performance. (cbq again)

twin song - music you might expect to hear over the sound system of a space ship slowly orbiting the earth while you sit back and pick out the geographical features under the cloudy covering. you may well be sipping a cosmopolitan and cracking a tiny pretzel between your teeth, is that the great wall? (original production by Martin F)

it could still be - a poem, a war, a picture of east and west and the prospect of a terror that over shadows all our lives, who is $aving America and Europe?

don''t bite the baby - a bonus track based on a song my kids were singing whilst playing on a game console.

Special thanks also to erin and olivia for the cover artwork.
