Temple~Song~Hearts is an all female vocal and instrumental ensemble, founded in 1987 and devoted exclusively to performing the music of Sri Chinmoy, using voice, piano, flute, recorder, cello, and french horn.
We have performed in: United Kingdom; Russia; former Yugoslavia; Bulgaria; Italy; France; Germany; Switzerland; Czech Republic; Slovakia and Poland. Recently the group expanded to incorporate singers and musicians from outside the U.K., and now has members from France, Germany, Austria and Serbia, along with the U.K. members. The most recent concerts were in Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
None of us are professional musicians, and we all hold down regular jobs, but we practise together as often as possible and enjoy taking off on concert tours whenever our schedules permit, and we have been fortunate enough to perform in many countries. We all follow Sri Chinmoy’s path of meditation and find that his music and the experiences we have in the group inspire and develop our spiritual life. Through our concerts and recordings we hope to lift and inspire others, to share the beauty of Sri Chinmoy’s music, and hopefully send people out with smiles on their faces.
Sri Chinmoy’s songs are written directly from a state of meditation, and many are in his native tongue, Bengali. It is not necessary for the listener to understand the meanings of the words, as the songs themselves carry the essence of meditation. We in turn sing these devotional songs to awaken our own spiritual heart and bring to the fore our inner qualities, to carry us along the path of meditation. We offer all our concerts free of charge, following Sri Chinmoy’s philosophy that the gift of meditation belongs to everyone
