Details:
Pop/rock group Jag Star exploded onto the scene in Knoxville, TN in 1999. Their original sound combines strong female lead vocals with everything from electric guitars, to haunting viola, to rock and hip-hop beats. In the last 3 years they have traveled the southeast, garnering fans from the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, and their home state of Tennessee. They were finalists in the 1999 Lilith Fair Talent Search, won the Jim Beam B.E.A.M. grant award in 2001 (chosen by Pat Dinizio of The Smithereens and Matthew Sweet), and have shared the stage with high profile artists such as MICHELLE BRANCH, MACY GRAY, RES, and SOLUNA. Their music is now featured on MTV''s "The Real World".
Lead singer/songwriter Sarah Lewis was just named the winner of the 2002 USA SONGWRITING COMPETITION for her song "Mouth". She was also the runner-up in the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Competition for the same song. "Mouth" is the first single from their latest CD, and was added in high rotation to a number of commercial stations including WAEZ, WALV, WDDJ, WVSR, and WCDA. They receive feature play at these stations: WOKI, WWST, WRZK, WRAS, and WNNX.
Jag Star released their first full-length album, "Crazy Place", in March 2002, and showed the band''s "edgier and friskier" sound, which is quite a departure from their mellow sounding debut EP. The new CD combines an array of musical styles and has received rave reviews in the southeast..."A refreshingly solid, thoroughly enjoyable piece of work" (Volume X Magazine)... "The disc is destined to put the band on the national map" (Jeff Eason, Mountain Times)... "''Crazy Place'' is the best album I''ve heard all year- signed or unsigned" (Peter Whitehead, A & R Network, UK).
