ROCK: Americana, COUNTRY: Traditional Country

Details:
James Theroux Band performs original material that is drawn from varied influences such as the folk of Woody Guthrie, Ramblin''Jack Elliott and Jimmie Rodgers.

The country of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Gram Parsons. The blues of Chicago and the Mississippi delta and the alt-country rock of artists such as Robert Earl Keen, Wilco, and The Jayhawks.

Hard work, hard life and the conflict between old and new ways give an edge to their music.

The group was originally formed in 1998 by Singer-Songwriter / Guitarist Darren Ellis whose rhythmically potent style is born from the juke joint blues of every day life.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in Southern California, with family roots that lead back to Memphis Tennessee, he has brought a new voice to traditional American music.

Darren was joined by Craig Ferguson (Bass Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals & Songwriter), whose musical influences has lead him from Seattle, Washington to Austin, Texas.

Soon the two had formed a musical partnership based on their mutual love of traditional folk, country-western, blues & swing, and some good old rock thrown in for drinkability.

The band has come fully together with the additions of Alexandria Galkin (Rhythm Guitar & Vocals), Albert Lee Jr.(Drums), Tom Vicson (Lead Guitar), Kirk Brown (Pedal Steel & Fiddle), and Jeremy Long (Keyboards).

James Theroux Band has just released its debut C.D. entitled "This Town" on their Rancho Canyon Music label.

The LP was produced by founding members Darren Ellis and Craig Ferguson and features 12 tracks.

The material is as varied as their influences and runs through a wide range of tempos, emotions and subject matter.

From "100 Miles To Barstow" to "Destination Dumpsville" and all stops in between, "This Town" tells several stories from several points of view.

Live performances of the band have recently featured a SRO show at the Galaxy Theater, with The Blasters.

JTB is continues to build a reputation as a "red hot live act" - by playing various venues through out Southern California, including Knitting Factory (L.A.), and the Doll Hut in Anaheim.

For the spring and summer of 2002, the group has booked several festivals and street fairs as well as many of their home based venues.

James Theroux Band truly is a house of many rooms, flexible enough to support the many idioms and personalized expressions ready to take it in new directions, yet still it remains true to its roots.

Through every day inspiration and the struggle to capture a piece of the American dream, the James Theroux Band speaks simply and straight forward about life experience in their own uncomplicated language of story and song.
