POP: Folky Pop, ROCK: Acoustic

Details:
Jamie Green is now “two-for-two,” having won an L.A. Music Award for her debut CD, “My Crime” (Outstanding Independent Pop Album – 2000), as well as one for her follow up effort, “Truce” (Adult Alternative Album of the Year – 2003). Jamie will begin recording her third album in the fall of 2004, thanks to having recently won the first place prize in the Gruv. Inc. national song contest: the recording and manufacturing of a full-length CD.

Jamie’s musical influences include nearly all pop, rock and soul from the 70’s to the present, with contemporary influences including Peter Gabriel, the Indigo Girls, Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette. Using organic and sometimes retro instrumentation, loops and light electronica to present her well-crafted songs, Jamie forges her own brand of contemporary pop that is funky, folky, thoughtful, moody and soulful. With her passionate music and confessional lyrics, Jamie shows you the full range of human emotion, leaving your heart moved, and your body moving. She tells it like it is, from the perspective of a woman who is both strong and vulnerable, both confident and neurotic--a woman who is still trying to figure this whole life thing out.

The album’s single, “Taximan” starts off where Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” left off, musing on the American Dream from an immigrant’s perspective in post-9/11 NYC: “Where are you from?” they ask /And he always dreads the question / He came to NYC to git with Lady Liberty /And the flag he displays prominently /Shields him from the vigilantes / They don’t know that he sings with Tracy /And he has a dream / Like you and me. “Not Gonna Make Believe” is a tongue-in-cheek proclamation of a girl who won’t fall again for the guy who has been leading her on forever: Not gonna brush my teeth for this /Not gonna chew Dentine for this /Not gonna shave my legs for this / Not goin’ to Jenny Craig for this / Not gonna change my sheets for this / Not gonna make believe for this. “Good Enough” explores the quest for self-esteem and inner peace: If I practiced yoga weekly / would I float around peacefully? / I could cease to eat meat freely / but would it even change a thing? Two songs on the new record received honors from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest—“Don’t Even” in the Rock category in 2001 and “Mantra” in the Folk category in 2002.

Though Jamie graduated from Stanford with a B.A. in American Studies and an arrest record for political protest, she returned to her native Los Angeles to be a professional dancer and singer. Along the way her path veered to a series of manufactured girl groups. "What was I thinking? It just wasn''t me!" Deliverance came in the form of the funk when she joined The Electric Booty Mob and played clubs across the suburbs of Los Angeles. It was during this period that she began penning her own songs, eventually going solo, and releasing her debut, “My Crime” in 1999. Known for her stage presence, even when she was a background vocalist, Jamie continues to give what Entertainment Today calls a “high octane live performance,” whether acoustic at Border’s Bookstores or with her full band in L.A. clubs such as The Mint, Temple Bar and House of Blues.

If you enjoy any of the following artists to whom Jamie has been compared, you will be glad to add "Truce" to your record collection: Alana Davis, Shawn Colvin, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Paula Cole, Tracy Chapman, Carol King, Melissa Etheridge, Mazzy Star, Tara MacLean, Jewel...
