John Temmerman is a performer (primarily tenor sax), bandleader and composer based in the Chicago area.
Initially eschewing music for a business career after stints in the University of Illinois Jazz Bands and at Berklee School of Music, he took up his instruments again in the early 90''s. He then blossomed under the tutelage of Mark Colby at DePaul University. The result was steady progress leading to roles as a performer/leader in area festivals and nightclubs and as a private music teacher. Then, a warmly received initial recording, Jazz Obsession Music, was released in 1995, featuring John with a drummerless trio with guitar and acoustic bass.
His latest recording, The Power of Two, shows expansion in many ways. He is joined by his regulars: stalwarts Rusty Jones, drums and Steven Hashimoto, bass along with young lion Neal Alger on guitar. Together they explore a wide musical range including mainstream jazz, fusion, funk and swing. John''s direct, organized, yet expressive solos are a delight, as are those of his counterparts. Another highlight is the interaction between the extremely tight rhythm section. There are 12 cuts on this 67-minute CD. Six are Temmerman''s compositions; the remainder include the standards, All Blues and Nice and Easy, along with, among others, lesser known tunes first recorded by the Crusaders, Tom Scott and the LA Express, and one, Costa Del Sol, from his son''s Playstation game, Final Fantasy VII.
John enjoys listening to a wide range of players from John Coltrane to King Curtis but says, "If I had my druthers, I''d druther be listening to Dexter Gordon or Zoot Sims"
This release has earned warm acceptance and radio play world wide.

...John''s talent on saxophone is filled with harmonic depth and incredible range, reminiscent of the imminent Dexter Gordon. His solos are rich and soulful. He penned half of the songs and the arrangements are all stellar. It would be a real treat to see this band perform live. Native Chicago music fans will no longer be a able to keep this little known secret from spreading. It deserves to be exposed. This is feel good music that grooves and will make you smile. Highly recommended.
