Details:
Jacapito! is Jim Lowry (fretless bass, vocals, percussion), David Weiss (nylon-string guitar, vocals, percussion), and Nathan Matson (drums, percussion). The fearless spirit of improvisation and exotic percussion-driven grooves using the instruments of their heroes gives the group a refreshing sense of adventure by fusing elements of world music with rock, pop, funk, jazz, ambient improvisations and dance rhythms.

Jacapito! was brought together by Bellingham guitarist David Weiss, who self-released a regionally successful instrumental guitar album in 1999 called "Finger Noise." In the search for musicians to join him in recording a follow up to his solo debut album, Weiss formed a five-piece Latin rock group known as the Letter Street Band, and after two years of playing local shows at parties, clubs, colleges, and outdoor parks slimmed the five-piece band down to a trio.

Then in late in 2003, the Western Washington University''s art gallery coordinator connected with Weiss looking for musicians to volunteer their services on Wednesday nights for a couple of weeks. It gave Weiss the idea to play unrehearsed improvised experiemental acoustic music to provide ambience in the art gallery and he called on several of his band mates in the Letter Street Band to join him. From there they coined a phrase for the style of music they created and dubbed it "Ambient World Jazz."

After months of searching for a band name, the band members invented the word "Jacapito" which is the approximate abbreviation of Jaco, Paco, and Tito. Most jazz enthusiasts will recognize these as the first names of Jaco Pastorius, Paco de Lucia, and Tito Puente. In the truest sense, Jacapito embodies the spirit (and instrumentation) of such an imaginary jazz supergroup.
