Details:
Born and raised in Monterey County, 19-year-old Joshua Armstrong is most comfortable playing in front of an audience, which he does quite regularly all over Northern California at coffee shops, theaters and recently venues like Monterey Live, CSUMB''s Black Box Cabaret and The Underground in Sacramento. Starting on the guitar at age 9, he grew up surrounded by music, but only started performing publicly in spring of 2004 - yet he already has more than three dozen shows under his belt.

Armstrong needs all his fingers and toes to count the musical influences for his new release, "Slip Away," but thinks listeners will find hints of Switchfoot, Bright Eyes, The Postal Service, The Killers, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, and even Keith Urban.

"It''s so hard for me to define my specific genre because my songs incorporate such a wide range of influences," Armstrong says. "For now, I''m happy to just call it rock and let the listeners decide."

Armstrong''s songs deal with coming of age issues like love, breakups and his parents'' divorce. However, rather than embracing the sometimes fashionable trait of self-pity, Armstrong wants to provide listeners with a sense of hope, a theme highlighted by the album''s title track, "Slip Away."

"My goal is to connect with the listener and provide some songs that make them reflect and others that just make them tap their foot and want to sing along," he said.

Armstrong''s first full-length release, "The Rogge Road Sessions," was released in July 2004 and recorded live with no multi-tracks or scratch tracks - leaving the listener with a sense of the raw passion that fuels his constant songwriting. Armstrong managed to sell over 200 self-pressed copies of "Rogge" at shows and word of mouth.

For "Slip Away," however, he joined up with 23-year-old Brian White, a professional recording engineer/instructor in Santa Clara who also happens to be a musical whiz on guitar, bass, and various synthetic instruments. The duo refined the new songs into something both are proud of sending to potential managers and labels.

Starting in the early summer, Armstrong posted several singles from "Slip Away" on https://www.tradebit.com - the hugely popular online community famous as a launch pad for new music. Since then, the counter has skyrocketed to over 37,000 song plays as online users tell friends all over the world, meaning Armstrong now has hundreds of fans in Europe and Australia, too.
