POP: Today''s Top 40, ROCK: Americana

Details:
Jim Britton has been playing music since he was a boy. Starting first on Clarinet, then moving on to drums, he developed a strong sense of rhythm and melody that is the driving force behind his compositions. While attending college in the White Mountains Region of New Hampshire, Jim also began to learn guitar and gain an appreciation for the vast beauty of that region of the Northeast.

After graduating college from Plymouth State University, Jim set out to the Boston area where he began auditioning for bands in the buzzing Boston music scene of the 1980''s. Eventually Jim became the drummer for progressive Alternative rockers Puppetmasters . Puppetmasters achieved some mild success on the Boston music scene playing live at well-known establishments like the Channel, T.T. the Bears, Manray, and Johnny D?s and played with bands like Bim Skala Bim and the Retards. Puppetmasters also achieved some mild success in the Boston area by attaining radio airplay on Boston powerhouse rock stations WBCN and WAAF.

As the nineties rolled around, Jim tired of the competitive Boston scene and the craziness of the urban lifestyle. He longed for the peace and beauty of New Hampshire and moved back to play with various conglomerations of local musician friends in his hometown of Sunapee. In 1996, Jim''s Brother Randy moved to New Hampshire, and expressed an interest in learning guitar. Jim had also developed a degree of proficiency on guitar which he used to help teach his brother to play as well. After a few lessons and numerous Jam sessions, the Britton brothers recruited Bass Player Chad Pidgeon to from the Nucleus of the band Spongeworthy.

Spongeworthy released their first CD : "Today" in 1999, and received airplay on college radio stations nationwide as well as commercial airplay from local stations Q-106 (WHDQ), 99 Rock (WFRD) and WKBK. They also achieved success on the local scene playing various venues in NH & VT including being one of the finalists in the Rock & Roll Rumble at the famed Destiny Nightclub in Ascutney,VT. Spongeworthy is expected to release their follow-up CD some time in 2004.

(I''ll Always) Miss New Hampshire is Jim''s first release as a solo musician. The song is a tribute to NH''s fallen icon, the Old Man of the Mountain. The song is unique because the lyrics represent the perspective of how the Old Man Himself might have felt about leaving his perch in his beloved state of New Hampshire. The song was recorded and mastered in New Hampshire, and all of the performers including Jim''s sister Wendy, and mutual friend Jeff Stevens are New Hampshire residents. Jim is currently working on other songs he has written for future release as well as production on the upcoming Spongeworthy CD.
