Details:
Senz of Depth, a.k.a. Miles Senzaki, was born and raised in SF but now resides in LA, where he earns his money as a jazz drummer and spends all his money (on gear) as a hip hop and electronic music producer.

Growing up as the son of a jazz saxophonist, Senz of Depth was influenced equally by his father''s music as well as his mother''s soul & funk record collection--not to mention the surreal animated segments of 1970s/early-80s Sesame Street that he watched constantly. In high school, playing guitar and drums in rock bands, he discovered the classic psychedelic music of Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and the Doors. As he delved deeper into jazz music, artists such as Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, and Charles Mingus greatly influenced his sense of composition. But it was the music of the Roots, J Dilla, and D''Angelo, (and the forefathers Prince, Al, and Stevie) that really motivated him to begin making beats. Listening to artists that pushed the envelope of genres (such as Bjork, DJ Shadow, El-P, and Boards of Canada), he realized that the future hip hop aesthetic could be opened up to include all of his past influences as well. Currently he is inspired by the new wave of left-field hip hop producers such as Georgia Anne Muldrow, Flying Lotus, Exile, Sa-Ra, and El-P.

Senz of Depth''s music seeks to fuse the seemingly opposing sounds that are contained within his influences: nostalgic vs. cutting-edge, organic vs. synthetic, live vs. sequenced. As a drummer, Senz is able lay down live rhythm tracks and layer them with instruments such as the Fender Rhodes, Moog synthesizers, electric bass, electric & acoustic guitar, turntable scratching, and all kinds of other weird shit. It''s the live playing that gives his tracks an ever-moving current; he rarely uses loops, instead opting to play through the whole song. As a result, the songs stay fresh with repeated listening, with new details constantly heard--details that he neurotically works into each song, as he does all his own mixing. Senz''s ultimate desire is to be able to transport you to another place and time--even if for a few moments--through the sounds that he crafts.
