Jim was born in Scotland, but has lived most of his life in New Brunswick, Canada. He is a multi-instrumentalist and performer, and has appeared on national radio and television broadcasts in Canada; his music has also been heard on radio in the US, the UK, Australia, Portugal and Ireland, and has appeared in printed collections from Minnesota, California, North Carolina and Maine.
His work has been performed and/or recorded by other artists in various parts of the world. He has written music specifically for the theatre and television, and has composed and co-produced a multi-media folk opera; he has also worked as a studio musician and has produced albums by other artists.
Jim''s second solo album, Horses of the Wind, was recorded at The Voice Factory, in Saint John, NB. It features John Murphy and Bernie Houlahan (who, along with Jim, form the folk group Hal An Tow); keyboardist Mark Lloyd; vocalist Debbie Adshade; the Saint John String Quartet; and five members of the Simonds Lions Caledonian Pipe Band.
