The JiveStory:

The History of Jivestone is a long one with many twists and turns...JiveStone drummer, Nick (the Animal) Grana and JiveStone keyboardist, Jamie (the Reverend) Bullock met about 6 years ago to form their first excursions into funk, rock, rap, latin, and jazz music. During this time they also met the very talented Lara Beers, female vocalist extraordinaire! Unfortunately, due to various circumstances, the project between the three of them came to an abrupt end. Over the years, they continued to play in various bands both together and separately.

Eventually, Nick pursued one of his long standing dreams to be a real Cap''n! He managed to swab the deck on a lobster boat in Massachusettes for six months, catching various ocean dwellers, namely the lobster, crab, codfish, and sea urchin. During this time, Jamie met Sam Bass, Jivestone''s current bassist. Jamie and Sam played in a small fourpiece together with two other musicians but eventually this band lacked the musical chemistry that is so brilliantly exposed with JiveStone. Unsatisfied and dissappointed, Jamie and Sam left to pursue their individual musical careers.

Lo and behold, Nick returned from his adventures at sea and he and Jamie began to play again. Working on covers, jazz standards, and a few originals, Jamie and Nick began to pick up where they left off and start to form the groundwork for something special later to come. As odd jobs came and went, so did their living spaces. Ultimately, the "Shack" was discovered in Sterling, VA. Truly a farmhouse in the city, Jamie and Nick couldn''t have been happier and moved in with two other roommates and were now able to make music at all hours of the night! What joy! What musical bliss! But alas..., they were lacking the true components needed to form a rockin band with a rockin sound.

Playing odd gigs here and there, Jamie ended up sitting in on a jam session at the State Theater in Falls Church, VA with 5 strangers. One of these strangers was lead guitarist, Terry O''Connor. Locking almost immediately with Terry, Jamie confronted him after the show and asked him if he would like join in on a practicing band. Terry showed no hesitation and was over at the "Shack" in less than 2 days. With a towering rig, and more pedals than any vehicle on land, air, or sea, Terry O''Connor came in with his guitar screaming in the likes of Van Halen, Santana, Slash, and Trey Anastasio. Once again, a very important ingredient was missing...the bass.

Terry, Jamie, and Nick would then play with various bassists yet unable to truly find "the sound". Brainstorming all options, Jamie remembered his old buddy, Sam Bass. Not knowing if Sam was at all available, Jamie gave him a ring. Sam came over the following night. In hazy cloud of smoke....Jivestone was formed!!

The foursome began to play every week, weaving in and out of musical dimensions and the fabric of time. Ideas were formed...some were lost in the haze, others stuck. Mostly an instrumental project, Jamie began toying with vocals and songwriting. Calling upon long time friend and superb vocalist, Lara Beers, JiveStone would focus on a few covers, original music, and an overdeveloped sense of improvisation. Fusing jazz progressions with rockin lead guitar and funky bass, drums, and keyboards...a new Jivestone emerged. Jivestone has grown into an eclectic sound sure to please everyone...all ages, all styles, and all smiles.
