Gloryhound and the Skyhawks share a common backbone that is rock and roll. The band consists of Evan Meisner (Lead Vocals, Guitar, and song writer), David Casey (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Jeremy Macpherson (Bass) and Shaun Hanlon (Drums). After coming together in 2005, the band quickly discovered they shared a love of artists like The Band, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, as well as an onstage chemistry. Together they form a symphony of gritty, dirty, bare bone rock and roll, with their roots planted deep in the sounds of yesteryear. Screaming loud old Gibson guitars, a heavy-driven rhythm section, howling and shaky vocals backed by poetic and sincere song writing makes for an energetic and acoustically pungent live show. Gloryhound and the Skyhawks will leave you wanting more, and remembering what rock and roll used to be. The group began sparking the interest of music lovers early in their career, well before they turned nineteen, opening for music greats such as Dutchy Mason, Matt Minglewood and Garret Mason. The band continued their success in 2006, making their mark on the Halifax music scene by playing countless venues around town while landing a weekly gig at the Tribeca. This venue gave them a chance to work on their songwriting and stagecraft, and the results were obvious in the band''s poise and impressive tightness when they opened for high profile acts such as Matt Mays & El Torpedo and The Trews. Gloryhound & the Skyhawks'' self-titled debut CD was recorded by Charles Austin (Matt Mays, Dave Marsh) and showcases the band''s firepower, as well as their poetic side. Released on May 31st at a rambunctious party at the Seahorse, the CD is available at shows and will soon be available on Itunes and at various stores around Halifax. Gloryhound has recently begun touring around the Maritimes, making new fans every show. However the bands’ success has merely begun in the Maritimes; and with the release of the first CD, the band is ready to play Canada.
