POP: Quirky

Details:
"It''s a rewarding listen, this cunningly tarty confection...Jane manipulates the female-folk-rock-singer-songwriter archetype with a suitable proportion of tunefulness, charm and swagger...a debut album with the goods...a paragon of radio friendliness...POP TART has at least enough moxie to compete with the big girls while incurable Maine-iacs will appreciate the tribute to the manifold joys, abstract and otherwise, of Maine-ness.- Charles Cook, WOBC RADIO, Oberlin College

"No popstar from A(retha) to Z(appa) , including "The Devine Miss M" and Madonna, ever had a better time playing in the fields of popular "kulchah", than Jane Burke....
Jane''s heart comes up through her lungs...this CD is hot, funny, provocative... Jane''s flower is on fire today.... DON''T SELL YOUR EARS BEFORE LISTENING TO THIS MUSIC!"
- Tim Sample, CBS Correspondent & Maine Humorist

"...hilarious, ingenious, strong musical celebration of pathos and potatoes. It rocks! The lyrics are genius, and (Jane''s) voice is swelled with emotion and seduction."
- Maryellen O''Brien, Author, Radio personality: WBLM-Maine, KRXQ-Sacramento,CA., ALTA-252 of Ireland and U.K., and others

TRY THIS RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:
Start with...One passionate, fearless song sculptor/muralist/designer with a quirky imagination, a compelling voice, and a stand-up comedian''s spirit. (Jane Burke)

Add...One eclectic musician/producer/visual artist/doctor with a strong attachment to whipping it up on keyboards (Rich Entel)

Fold in... Unstoppable guitarists, bass players, drummers, and back-up singers. (Bob Colwell, Steve Jones, Tim Leighton, Steve Vellani, Paul T-Bo, Bob Evans and others)

Simmer....''til you get that hooky, heartfelt, humorous, sometimes savage, sometimes sensual, retro-pop peppered concoction that is Jane Loves Maine''s disc POP TART.

Send it out...take it on the road...play it at home....hear it....see it....feel it...
chew it carefully...IT WILL FEED YOU.

hardy endorsements:

"She''s always been more important than sex and now you can hear it for yourself. Even when she''s croaking like a man and taunting her friends, you know damned well it''s her and you have to sway and laugh and quit drinking for a day. Like finding a King James Bible on a pool table at a gay bar or visiting your mother''s orphanage, if this music doesn''t build you a fresh sandwich for your trip, do me (and everybody else) a favor and have your wheels checked before you hit the road. IT''S THAT SOLID!"
-Tim Sample

She who manipulates the semi-confessional-female-folk-rock-singer-songwriter archetype with a suitable proportion of tunefulness, charm, and swagger these days is going to be, ipso facto, a paragon of radio friendliness. Jane Burke, under the moniker "Jane Loves Maine," has produced in POP TART, a debut album with the goods to hold this axiom at its word. Lovers of the aesthetic will find that POP TART has at least enough moxie to compete with the big girls, while incurable Maine-iacs will appreciate the tribute to the manifold joys, abstract and otherwise, of Maine-ness. It''s a credit to Jane that the album for the most part consigns itself neither to the bottom-drawer ephemerality of ''local color'', nor to the formulaic self-indulgence of what so many of pop music''s ''empowered'' women seem to be recording. It''s a rewarding listen, this cunningly tarty confection, not the least because of its purposeful structure. The interplay of the content and the track arrangement ensures that the album grow gradually better as it unfolds -- from the Doors-esque jam at the conclusion of "You''re So Beautiful", through the reprise of track one("Fill It Up"), to the stirring, full-bodied conclusion, in "For Your Love," that, like the album as a whole, saliently (and deftly) incorporates both "Jane" and "Maine."
-Charles Cook, WOBC radio, Oberlin College

-----------------------------Dear Jane.........................

Dear Jane,
I put on your CD and went....WOW! I like the songs so much I''m going to sing five of them at my gig with The Lonesome Brothers. Rich''s "imagine-airy" use of the keyboards takes me to the outer-limits of space and time, then guides me slowly back to earth on a magic carpet ride.
Much love,
Robin (of Robin Lane and the Chartbusters) Greenfield, Massachusetts

Dear Jane,
You amaze me! You sound like the offspring of Chrissie Hynde if she mated with a B-52(and the fairy Godmother was Robin Lane and the Fairies'' Godfather were Queen).
Maryellen O''Brien, (Author, Radio personality) Chicago, Illinois

Dear Jane,
Love the CD. You''re a riot and you have a great voice! Impressed by Rich playing those wild keys!
Martha
Martha Colby (of Pharaoh''s Daughter, and Thing-Three) NewYork City

Dear Jane,
That was us at the front table there...great(!)... a nice breath of fresh air!...and the CD played like 3 times on Sunday and we all had (your song) LaDeDa in our heads...., hilarious!
Pete Thayer, (guitarist), Boothbay Harbor, Maine
