E. Eugene Brown was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Muskogee Public Elementary and secondary schools, graduating from Muskogee High School in 1988.
E. Eugene Brown began playing the piano at the early age of 9yrs old. He attributes!" Ms. Helen Wilson for his music success. His first music assignment was when the musician at Bethel AME didn''t show up! And yes, this was the beginning of Eugene Brown''s phenomenal music career...
Being under the anointing of family Ministers, (Big Momma Beckner, and Mother BJ Woodfork) Eugene''s mother has always felt that he was called to the ministry. And as it turns out, so were siblings: Captoria (who is an extraordinary percussionist) and William (who is a dynamic Youth Minister).
Many years to follow, Eugene attended and studied music at Langston University, Oklahoma as a fourth year music major. Eugene has received several scholarships, awards and honors. The first recipient of the Gannett News, Muskogee NAACP Academic Scholarship; the Boston Russell Scholarship; the Langston University outstanding achievement in the Evelyn L. Pittman Music Competition; the Muskogee Area Chapter of Langston University Alumni Association Scholarship; and the Langston University Presidential Tuition Choir Scholarship for two consecutive years was nominated and listed in Who’s Who in Music Among High School Students and American Universities and Colleges and was listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll.
While attending Muskogee High School he served as pianist for Tuxedo Junction, under the direction of Mr. Bill Herns, and on different occasions he was an accompanist for the Langston University Concert Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Alexis Rainbow, Artist in residence, and Director of the University Choir.
He has served as pianist for Oak Grove A.M.E Church; Organist for Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, Greater Cleave C.M.E. Church in Oklahoma City; Pianist for the Chosen Few Gospel Singers; pianist and organist for several workshops and musicals, both city and statewide; pianist for the Collate District Brotherhood,Music Director of the 133rd Creek District Missionary Baptist Association, St. Mary C.M.E Church in Oklahoma City and presently serving as Minister of Music and Youth Director for Shiloh Baptist Church, & Minister of Music at Old Agency Baptist Church both of Muskogee,Oklahoma.
Eugene has taught and played for famous youngsters (such as Smokie Norful),Eugene has accompanied many great Gospel Singers throughout his career such as: Mezzo Soprano Ernestine Dillard, Casetta George, Ruby Terry, James Moore, The Walker Brothers, Ester Smith, Vickie Winans,Dorinda Clark Sheard and Timothy Wright.
Eugene has become a prolific songwriter and has written songs for his Community Choir. And also the school song for Boynton Public Schools in Boynton, Okla., His latest song and CD title “I Don’t See How” received Honorable Mention in the 2008 Oklahoma Songfest Writing Competition. Perhaps his greatest passion evolved in 1999 when he came back to Muskogee to care for grandmother, the late Carrie Beckner. In late 1999, Eugene, with a handful of other saints from surrounding church choirs, began the infamous New Testament Gospel Choir.
In 2007, Eugene said the calling of the Lord became so strong that he could no longer deny it. He felt that instead of ministering through music, the Lord was leading him to minister through spoken word. The gift that he has cultivated for so many years is being taught to others. Eugene teaches piano lessons to a number of children and young adults in Muskogee and surrounding areas.
Now, at the age of 37 yrs old, Eugene is on fire for the Lord more than ever.
NEW TESTAMENT GOSPEL CHOIR came together as one body of believers whose common vision was, to minister the word of God to all through the gift of song.
A community gospel choir born July 2000, when Minister E. Eugene sought the Lord and acted upon a prophetic word he received that year. NTGC features 25 members from 12 different churches and still growing. The diverse group ranges from age 17 to 62 years old, but all have very distinct gifts. Vocal training is required from each choir member weekly and the Musician’s are required to have individual practices with Director Eugene outside of the group. If you speak with a group member you will hear them say we are like a family and we are very dedicated to each other and God.
The dynamic layers of instrumentation were the fingerprint of Minister E. Eugene Brown and The Band. The full range of sounds demonstrates his powerful background in concert piano, jazz, traditional & contemporary gospel style of playing. Minister E. Eugene Brown is able to combine the styles of old and new gospel with boldness, all while crafting a tightly produced, gospel album appealing to the traditional, southern and contemporary style fans alike.
One of the album''s highlights is "I Don’t See How," a song with a powerful message, Eugene wondered one day while attending church service; as he looked out into the audience to see they were not giving praise to God for the many things he has done for them.
