Rase is an exciting British indie guitar band from Birmingham, England, and is set to make a real splash with their latest eponymous EP. This four-piece packs a real punch with a superb sound, filling the listener’s ears with catchy melodies at every turn. Augmented with clever and often poignant lyrics, their songs have a depth extending beyond the often superficial content heard in today’s charts.
Dan Greenway’s emotive vocals are heightened by subtle harmonies which draw attention to the thought provoking lyrics. Melodic bass lines roll and groove beneath innovative drum beats. The solid rhythm section of bassist Giles Smith and drummer Matt Yates frees the two guitarists, Jay Goodison and Dan Greenaway, to weave licks and riffs throughout the listeners’ heads, with enough grit in the guitars to rock you without concealing the detail behind a wall of sound.
Such an array of influences flavours the ‘rase’ sound and creates a unique blend, with four minds soaking up all the great music around them like a sponge, to be squeezed back out as something that is difficult to pigeon hole.
Their latest EP is testament to the above, demonstrating the range and diversity of the greatest bands whilst maintaining a distinctive sound throughout. If you demand energy and feeling in your music, meaningful lyrics and haunting melodies, then ‘rase’ could just be the band you wish you’d already found!
