Details:
Due to the success of his Suite for the Columbia Gorge, J. Michael Kearsey released Silverthaw in 1990. The music is inspired by the beauty of Oregon and the Northwest. The title describes the brief moment when the fog of the Columbia River Gorge freezes on the bare trees of winter: a Silverthaw. The music was heard throughout the 90''s on PBS, The Wave and The Breeze radio formats. Kearsey mixes instrumental stylings of jazz, folk and classical music with soaring melodies and well knit guitar and percussion patterns. He plays guitars, bass, keyboards and uses many great Oregon musicians as well: Cal Scott (cornet, guitar), Billy Oskay (violin), Michael Beach (percussion), Christopher Kern (vibes & steel drums) and Jeffry Ashton (classical guitar).
J. Michael Kearsey has recently been heard as a bassist with Brothers of the Baladi and a composer for Oregon Public Television programs: Oregon Portraits, Oregon Portraits 2 and Small Towns of Oregon.
