If there''s one thing that Hollowshell has, it''s a story. A story that dates back to a few years ago to a place called Salt Lake City, Utah. Two musicians, Tom Chandler and Robert Cantu, had grown tired of the now mundane Southwest Cover Band circuit and together began writting original songs that shared their idea of how modern music should sound. Having personal musical influences rooted deep in metal, as well as having learned and played every pop hit from the last two decades, the culmination of music was nothing short of eye opening and unique. It was then that Tom and Robert decided to take their vision to Southern California...
A short time after arriving, Tom and Robert rented a shack-sized rehearsal room in Orange County and began writting music that sounded like nothing that popular music had heard before. A fresh blend of alternative and progressive rock, with just a hint of metal, that became the Hollowshell sound. Realizing that the complexity of the music wouldn''t allow for just one guitar player, they placed an ad in the local Recycler magazine, and got a response from Chris Brouelette, a local guitar player that had just left an instrumental project looking for a new band with a heavier style. Collectively, they finished their debut album, Ever Falling Sky and began playing local shows in Southern California.
During this period of gigging and sharing the stage with various major bands (Kings X, Fates Warning, George Lynch, MSG), Chris, Tom, and Robert began running into obstacles out of their control (exiting band members, finances, and physical hardship), and we''re forced to pause Hollowshell in an effort to refocus the direction of the band. This would turn out to be a crucial and necessary point for the band as they began to understand that not only had the band members themselves evolved, but so had the music that they loved to play. The trials had shown them what was really missing from the equation all along; the METAL! So they began writting new music with a whole new set of emotions, and started looking for a 4th full time band member..
Luis Gadea answered the call. Hailing from Spain, he came to America having been a part of the European cult metal scene, and now looked for an opportunity to join a band with a metal vision. Now as a complete 4 piece, Tom, Robert, Chris, and Luis began writting music that formed into a metal masterpiece, Deadlights. Released in July of 2008 it breathes new life into a mundane world of overplayed, detuned madness, while still maintaining the melodic and soulful choruses that are the signature Hollowshell sound. In short, these four musicians have once again sculpted a sound that can only be described as unique and previously unheard as they set forth to unleash their mark on the world of music.
