Details:
Guitarist/composer Johann Helton has has been recording and performing around the United States for more than 30 years. Based in Boise, Idaho in the Pacific Northwest, he has been referred to as one of the area''s ''long-loved guitarists''. As a composer, Johann''s musical interests and influences run the gamut, but with the emphasis always on melody and texture. As a performer, Johann ''treats his instrument like a canvas'', painting musical pictures of great variety and imagination.

"The power of music is the power of the human spirit. My intention with expressing my musical vision is to remind listeners that beauty is a powerful agent in affecting positive change in this fragmented world."

''Tell Me A Story'' (JoTown Records GSP10224), released in November ''04, is Johann''s third solo album. The opening track, ''A Peer Amid The Ruins'', has an almost Middle Eastern atmosphere with compelling violin and mandolin solos. The title track conveys in a simple form the power of well-turned musical idea to capture a mood. A specialist in nylon-string instruments, Johann pays homage to the roots of his instrument in the tracks ''Barcelona'' and ''Esperanza''. ''Walking Backwards'' has the unlikely but surprisingly effective combination of the ''Pink Panther'' theme with ''Smoke on the Water'' - you''ll really have to hear it to believe it! Each piece in this collection tells a different story, yet they come together as one delightful whole.

A partial list of credits reveals the breadth of influences in this artist''s musical journey. He has performed with Luciano Pavarotti and Jim McGuinn (The Byrds), Nancy Griffith and The Kingston Trio. He has appeared on PBS with Judy Collins and The Smothers Brothers. He has performed with Opera Idaho and has been a member of the 1960''s folk group The Highwaymen for more than a dozen years. His previous album ''Songs Without Words'' (JoTown Records GSP 102003), was Number 6 in Wind & Wire Magazine''s annual Best Acoustic Instrumental CD of 2003. Polished, versatile and expressive, the music of Johann Helton is for our time and for all ages.
