MP3 JD2 - It's Such A Short Time (We Have)

Wisps of Rick Nelson but not as smooth as his pipes were. Even like George Harrison but not as orchestrated. In any case, it always comes out like the Little Rascals International Silver String Submarine Band. That''s not a bad thing. You decide.

12 MP3 Songs in this album (38:40) !
Related styles: COUNTRY: Country Folk, ROCK: Folk Rock

A clarification from Horseshoe Bend Productions:
The plain truth is Jd2 has no clue who he sounds like. While "famous names" direct you to this & other pages, it does not mean Jd2 will sound like Rick Nelson or anyone else just because that name is connected to his page. On his first album Jd2 said, "you might say it''s a growlin'' dog, a howlin'' cat & a hummin'' gerbil." In other words, don''t expect Jd2 to remind you of anything except what you think it is. You decide!

This is the fourth CD album from JD2 and just like his other three albums, I''ve Got A Long, Long List, Everybody''s Gunnin'' 4 Me and Can''t Make A Dime (On A Broken Heart), he delivers 12 more original songs that are once again different in subject matter. First it was life''s peccadilloes, followed by paranoia and sarcasm, and then love and heartbreak. JD2''s fourth CD deals with the tick of time. What we do with it, how we spend it and how we might regret it''s passing. I asked JD2 why he chose this subject for an album.

“Why not! It''s something all of us live with so it''s something all of us go through because nobody gets out alive and many of us never really appreciate the time we''ve been given. The song Short Time says: (It''s such a short time - we have - to be here together - why can''t we – remember.) Lot''s of folks act like it doesn''t matter if you don''t take care of something or if you hurt someone. They either have no feelings or they think they''ll have plenty of time to work it out. They take time, life and love for granted. The song says: (This is a thought – remember – it''s such a short time we have.) Many people treat each other like trash, even the ones they claim to love.”

Do you think about your time in that way? “You mean like a short time? Oh sure, I mean the older you get the more you realize how lucky you''ve been to make it as far as you have and the more you try to not take that for granted. You try to make every day count in whatever positive way you can. I mean, that''s better than just staying mean and bitter. Which is an addition a lot of folks like to support.”

Do all the songs deal with the shortness of time? “No, no, well? in a way. Some are about love that''s honored and some are about love that was lost, or realized too late. Others are just about thinking. Like thinking about what you are doing today! I wrote most of them to remind myself. If you take life for granted you will let the best part of your life slip away. Then nothing matters. You have to remind yourself each day. Think about it. Live it. Make a difference in a positive way. Or as I heard someone say: ‘I''d like to be remembered as someone who may not have changed the world but I tried to cause no harm to anyone or anything while I was here.’ Now that''s a novel approach and it''s something most of us don''t think about.”

Why do you think we treat each other destructively? “Well, you know humans are violent by nature and we haven''t done much to turn that around in any substantial way. It''s like George Harrison wrote: ‘Isn''t it a pity now isn''t it a shame. How we break each other''s hearts and cause each other pain. How we take each other''s love without thinking anymore. Forgetting to give back. Isn''t it a pity?’ – I mean that says it better than anything I''ll ever write. I''m just trying to keep the thought alive. It''s something to reach for, something we can all do but have not done yet. And each day we don''t do it, the chance to do it and the time to do it in gets shorter and shorter for each one of us. We have the brain power to change it. The question is, do we have the desire?”

Do you think we''ll ever get there? “I don''t know. Each one has to do their own part. But as a human society we aren’t looking very good based on the direction we''re headed. It''s like we fight wars that are supposed to end all wars and then we start or defend ourselves with another war. This world has all kinds of people and sometimes certain people get very large egos that make them think they''re gods and they think nothing can possibly be greater than themselves. In reality we''re all just Ants and they are the ones who think they own the Ant hill.”

So what can we do with people like that? “I don''t know, I''m not an ambassador to the ant hill or for the world but it would be nice if the world as a group would get together and vote on it. Maybe round up all those tyrant ants and send them into outer space to orbit around a few days on bread and water until they realize there are definitely things that exist outside of their own petty desires. If they change their mind set, then they can come back, if not leave''em out there because they''re ruining everything down here for everybody else.”

Do you have your sights set toward the future? “Yes, of course, you can''t go back very well. Life goes forward not backwards, so I''m working on my next album. It''s called ‘Got My Axles A Turnin''.’ It''s got some new material on it. I took a few days off not long ago to kinda take a break and give myself a chance to get some new stuff going, so we''ll see how that turns out. In the meantime I''m out on the highways and byways of this old planet.”

Thanks for the ‘Short Time’ we had together and best of luck with this new CD. “You bet, I enjoyed it and thanks to everyone out there for reading and listening. Make each day count and I hope 2 C U on the highways of life.”
