The Artist''s Story:
On September 11, 2001, Jean Larson sat up late grieving over the horror displayed on t.v. that terrible day, while her husband and children finally slept. Through her tears, she pleaded with God for some comfort, and in response He laid a song on her heart—words, melody, chords, and rhythm. She gave it a title the next day, “Stand on the Rock,” and polished it up in time to share it during worship the following Sunday.
This would prove to be the first in a cascade of personal songs that have continued to pour out of her soul. After years of interpretation and enjoyment of other people’s music, Jean had suddenly begun to express her own lyrical and musical voice.
Her early training in classical piano and voice, her constant endeavor to develop her skills as a musician and bandleader, and her affinity for pop and jazz music are evident as she continues to share her gifts with others.
Her lyrics are simple and direct, and her music carries a depth of emotion—-elation, confusion, grief, joy, longing, comfort—-that resonates with her audience and touches their hearts. Her music lifts people’s spirits and connects them with each other in a way that only excellent music can.
She does not hide the fact that her inspiration comes from God. She is an ordinary woman with a message to share about her relationship with her Savior, about God’s love for all people and His desire for a close relationship with each of us. If you are fortunate to see her in concert, you will enjoy an evening of musical excellence and inspiration from this down-to-earth, funny, and warm singer/songwriter. You will be swept up in the friendship between the members of this band as they visibly derive great joy from making music together and sharing it with others.
Jean is anxious to start work on her second CD, as quite a few new songs have been born since this CD was recorded, and have become new favorites of her concert audience.
