J.O.M.O.

Real name, no...you know the rest, Jomo Lyles-Belton (pronouned Jah-moe) was born in Columbia, South Carolina before moving to Atlantic City as a young child. He thrived in the city where his father taught him to play basketball, he would go on to lead the Atlantic City Vikings for four years. A member of the school''s 1000-Point Club and the Cape-Atlantic League all-stars, Jomo was readily considered one of the top high school guards in the state of New Jersey. After sparring with his coach at TCNJ-Trenton State, Jomo decided to return to the south.

At North Carolina Central - Durham, an NCAA Division 2 basketball program, Belton would once again be in the spotlight. His performance earned him a spot on the CIAA conference all-star team. Despite his success on the court, Jomo maintained a shy, soft-spoken, and self-aware image. Jomo spent most of college so quiet he earned the nickname "Mute." As he got older and gained more experience he became more social. He attributes his quiet past to fear, "I was a scared dude, now I''m older and fear no one, consequently, I''m recklessly arrogant at times. I had done things I shouldn''t have done, and been places I shouldn''t have been, but now I''m older and I''m tryin'' to chill out with that."

Upon graduating without the prospect of being drafted in the NBA, Jomo was ready to settle down in Durham before his father alerted him of an opening as an Atlantic City Firefighter. Belton scored fourth-highest on the qualifying tests which were administered to over one thousand prospective firefighters. With his return to Atlantic City, Jomo was reacquainted with old friends and old flames. In "Heartbreak," Jomo croons about Rashada, a girl who had done him wrong as a youngster and who is now his current girlfriend. "She''s changed me a lot, been a bigger effect on me than people realize. I know she''s not gonna like the song when she hears it, but hey, it''s the actual factuals."

In addition to working full-time as a fireman, Jomo wanted to be a businessman in the rap game. He hooked up with a sheisty cat trying to promote concerts. When "Big Sleep" failed to appear at a show Jomo had booked, Jo knew the only way to succeed in the industry was by doing it himself, so he began rapping. "Mad Man" Juwan Lowrey donated a few beats for Jomo to write songs. "It was a good beginning but at that point I really didn''t understand the mechanics of a song - the chorus, the bars, etc.

Meeting Keys, becoming friends and partners is the next landmark in Belton''s life. He met Billy Harding on the set of a film, and for lack of a better phrase and at the cost of being trite, ''the rest is history.'' They collaborated with Ray McKnight, Perservere (Young ''Lil,) and Borino to make "America''s Playground" - one of the hottest releases out of New Jersey since Frank Sinatra rep''ed Hoboken.

Jomo is content selling his record on his own for the time being, "Sure I''d love to sign with a label, but only under the right circumstances, I''m not tryin'' to sign with Roc'' and be the 3rd or 4th option. I don''t want to be behind Jay-Z or behind 50, I''m tryin'' to be in the forefront. I''m not sayin'' I''m the best lyricist, but I make good music and I''m what''s real. I''m not afraid to turn record deals down, I won''t sign to a label that''s not going to promote me the way I deserve to be promoted."

As of date, Jomo-N-Keys have put out a Full LP- J.O.M.O.-''America''s Playground''produced entirely by "WhiteKeys". Jomo-N-Keys have recently launched two mixtapes which are doing an excellent job of creating a buzz for themselves. The first mixtape ''The Kill: 1st Batch'' was the 1st mixtape and ''The Kill: The Re-Up'' have been very successfull. Jomo-N-Keys next project which is already finished and upon release is our new EP coming out along with a single. Jomo-N-Keys have been featured on 91.9fm with DJ Mixx in New York City, as well as DJ Danny J with in Camden County.
