I have a bio on my website, which you''re welcome to check out at https://www.tradebit.com. It lists all of my professional acheivements. So here I''ll put more of a personal thing. I spent most of my formative years stoned. At age 18 I realized that I should probably get another hobby if I wanted to get anywhere. So I started going to college, and realized that I was spending all of my time ignoring my homework and playing the guitar or the piano. It then dawned on me how cool it would be if playing music WAS my homework. So, a few years later, I graduated from Rutgers with a degree in music. I started teaching and playing in coffeehouses/bars in the central New Jersey area. After a number of people asked if I had anything recorded that they could buy, I decided to take ten of my favorite originals and put them on a CD. Tea Leaves is the result. It features Dave Clark, a smokin'' bass player and Noah Baerman, a great friend and exceptional keyboardist. Noah has some CD''s for sale on CD Baby as well. It also features Dave Williamson, who responded to an ad I put in record stores looking for drummers. Dave C. has a great groovy bass sound, and Noah''s formidable chops and love of jazz and hippy music made for just the sound I was looking for. We recorded live, and I think the CD captures a lot of that "live feel," which I think is cool. Anyway, right after I got done with the CD my wife got transfered to San Francisco, and I went along. There I sort of fell into a job trading options on the floor of The Pacific Stock Exchange. Did you ever see "Trading Places?" You know that part at the end with the orange juice futures? That''s what it was like. Every day. You had to be at work at 5 a.m. and you couldn''t drink anything all day because if you left the trading pit to pee you lost your spot. I made more money doing this than I would have playing guitar and teaching, to be sure. But I also got very stressed out and, according to my wife, became not very much fun to live with. After about five years, we managed to save some money, and instead of buying a house or something else resembling responsible behavior, we chose to buy a Volkswagon van and take a road trip around the country. You can read all about it at https://www.tradebit.com. During that trip, I decided that my real passion was, indeed, music. So I joined a band called Satellite Sky (we''re in the process of designing a web site, etc.), began teaching again, built me a website (did I mention that already) and started integrating myself into the San Francisco music scene. I also pulled one of my copies of Tea Leaves out of the closet and gave it a spin. Turns out that there are some pretty catchy tunes on it. So, I figured that if I thought it had some cool tunes, other people might, too. If you do, thank you. I feel very grateful when someone tells me that my music makes them happy or want to dance or whatever. Thanks for reading my bio, and feel free to email me at karl@https://www.tradebit.com. Peace, Karl.
