Details:
A child opera singer, a teenager playing regularly with my band at CBGB''s, a professional violist performing with the NY Philharmonic and playing in the pit of the Broadway production of Lion King, a high school music teacher... life is a soundtrack. And the songs on this CD are bouncing between rock, pop, and dabbling in R&B. Those are three broad descriptions of what I like to mess around in. This is not a CD that will stay securely in one flavor. I don''t want it or like it that way.

Although well-versed in Bartok and Beethoven, I most enjoy unisons, 3 or 4 chords, and only an occasional diminished interval. I sing, play bass, viola, violin (although I really didn''t want to), guitar, keyboards and handclaps. I had lots of help from friends on guitars, drums, sax, flute, and harmonica.

ABOUT THE SONGS

Spy Girl
Sometimes a simply indescribable feeling comes over me-I know it means I''m about to write some music-hopefully good music. This track came about quickly. Bruce heard the music and was reminded of James Bond. Hence, these lyrics.

Breakdown
Heard a friend''s jazz band one night. Couldn''t get this cool descending bass line out of my head. A few years(!) later, I tried to remember it, and to popify it.

Here All Night
Every year that passes, I find myself enjoying reggae more and more. This was inspired by one of the Wailer''s members. If you can guess the song, I''ll send you a free CD!

Nowhere
I was eating a sandwich and contemplating my career as a freelance musician going nowhere, and my interest in Coldplay''s A Rush Of Blood To The Head. The guitarist on the recording thought it sounded closer to Pete Townsend. You be the judge.

Gotta Change
A lot of NY City bands were combining rock, punk, and dance. I''ve always gravitated towards any kind of music which makes you want to move. This one was developed with Pierre in Paris who knew none of those bands!

Truth
Originally conceived as a guitar-driven song. It''s amazing how things can change dramatically during the recording process. It just wasn''t sounding right the original way-so I completely changed it.

Now I Can See
When I came up with this one, I thought it was Avril Lavigne speaking through me! Seriously, I think it''s better suited for a girl-or a very sensitive and pissed off boy.

Everyday
Eating in a Turkish restaurant in Amsterdam while listening to their boom box. Pretty obvious, huh! Pierre really gave it the sound and feel it now has.

Come Back
Me pleading/screaming to no one in particular. Actually, I was enjoying Gnarls that week.

Open Up
Wrote it for my new girlfriend-and now wife! A little romantic, a little sexy, and I thought, a little U2. I had fun with the long 70''s-style fade.

Iraqracy (2004)
I never write political songs. But I was so angered and frustrated over the invasion that this oozed out of me. 2004 is in parenthesis because I knew at the time that some of what I was saying (although not enough) would no longer be current by the time this CD was released.

You''re The Future
I was biking through Central Park and thinking of the Britneys and Jessicas-the big pop "artists" that summer. The anger, music, and lyrics all hit me at once.

It was fun making this CD-and nobody got hurt!
