ROBIN AVERY
BIO

While you may hear echoes of Sade, Marvin Gaye, Laura Nyro, and Carole King, there can be no mistake that Robin Avery’s music and voice are all her own. In her 2008 release, Light The Way, Robin inspires others to participate in positive ways to the good health and healing of our planet. The track was recently selected by JonesTM for their Hit Disc which was released to over 1000 radio stations nationally on August 1, 2008.

Once again Robin joins with co-writer/producer Paul Banman and her team at ICQ Productions. In their signature style, Light The Way blends the warmth of Robin’s smooth vocals with an infectious groove and arrangement at the direction of Paul Banman along with engineering, vocal production and mixing by their long time partner Greg Minnick. Paul and Greg deliver the impeccable quality of Robin Avery music the industry has come to expect. A world music mix of Light The Way is available as well, incorporating exotic instrumentation, lush, airy vocal harmonies and a soothing meditative vibe inviting you to sit back and breathe.

Musicians on the track include the amazing talents of Paul Banman on keyboards, Mitch Farber on guitar, Quinton Robinson on drums, Anthony Turner on bass, Robert Thomas Jr. on percussion, Robin on lead and background vocals, and a little help from her friend, saxophonist Johnny James AKA Dr.J., who joins in on background vocals as well as vibe rap on the world mix.

You can see Robin and her band recording the track in her newly completed home recording studio The Pink Booth, in the Light The Way Music Video. The video compliments the lyrics and takes you on a tour of stunning rainforests, mountain ranges, and animal life as Robin implores us to “protect the earth we live in”. (Light The Way, 2008). Award-winning film director, Ken Ross, of Cyclone Pictures, Inc. directed the video. A pioneer in music video production, Ken has directed over 60 music videos for artists including Keith Richards, Patti Smith, Chicago, Roseanne Cash and The Smiths. Phyllis Famiglietti of Figments Editorials edited the video. Phyllis edits commercials and videos for such clients as Versace, Banana Republic, Estee Lauder, and Armani. She edited 666 which won the Silver Lone Star Award for best dramatic short at the Houston International Film Festival.
In her 2005 CD release, THE WAY YOU HOLD ME, Robin teamed up with ICQ producers Paul Banman and Greg Minnick to offer her unique fusion of smooth jazz and R&B/Pop. With lyrical reflections on life and love, Robin’s songs flow to the rhythm of life covering the joys and pangs of men and women who are trying to connect, separate, or find their own meanings.
Sandy Shore at https://www.tradebit.com in her review of The Way You Hold Me wrote, “Robin Avery delivers a smash hit…slick, crisp production, fresh and cool vocals…Robin’s sultry voice lends itself effortlessly to her lyrics about loving, living, and thriving.” –Sandy Shore, https://www.tradebit.com Review 5/1/05.
Paula Edelstein at allmusic wrote, “With this third recording titled The Way You Hold Me, her (Robin) warm, romantic vocals are complemented by the sounds of contemporary jazz greats who have performed with such major talents as David Sanborn, Aretha Franklin, and Weather Report. These incredibly talented musicians add another dimension to Robin Avery''s captivating vocals, which are a brilliant fusion of R&B and pop jazz”. -Paula Edelstein, https://www.tradebit.com Review 7/25/05.
Robin’s cover of the Cars 80’s hit, Drive, brings a fresh sound to the vocal that is uniquely Robin Avery. The track also features internationally acclaimed smooth jazz artist, Warren Hill, adding his lyrical and soulful saxophone to the mix. Carol Archer, editor at Radio & Records wrote of Robin’s cover of The Cars Drive, “Just this afternoon while I auditioned a growing stock of new releases, I popped in Robin Avery f/Warren Hill’s “Drive” (Green Eyes Music). Avery’s a new artist to me – a damned good one, too! ………Carol Archer- Radio & Records
The track Kiss Me I n The Rain is a warm, melodic call to live fully and spontaneously and to treasure laughter and love in each moment. The Caribbean influenced What Was On Your Mind speaks of the secrets partners keep and the realities they deny to maintain relatedness with the other. This song powerfully portrays both longing to know those secret thoughts and the fear of what they might be. Two songs very close to Robin’s heart are Under The Same Sky which was so inspired by her youngest son that she gave him a co-writer credit. That Makes All The Difference is a song of healing past family wounds in the presence of a loving, accepting and caring partner.

The recording of The Way You Hold Me was a labor of love and features an incredibly talented group of musicians who have toured and performed with some of the top recording artists in music. They include Leo Brooks (Lauren Hill)-bass; Robert Thomas, Jr. (Weather Report)–percussion; Jonathan Joseph (David Sanborn)-drums; David Cabrera (Ricky Martin)-guitar and Clarence Charles (Barry White, Aretha Franklin)–guitar. The renowned Roger Nichols (Steely Dan) was the mastering engineer.

Summer 2005 Robin and the band made a highly successful trip to Reno, NV at the invitation of radio station KJZS with Robin doing an on-air interview and performing for their weekly sponsored smooth jazz event at Scruples Bar And Grill, and later that evening playing for an enthusiastic audience at EJ''s Jazz Club in Reno.

Robin performed at SunFest 2006, the premier annual South Florida music festival. She and her band opened for internationally acclaimed pianist/singer Bruce Hornsby. Together with her band, Robin gave an exciting and entertaining show featuring original music from her CD as well as putting her spin on popular standards. In the words of Ric Blake, Vice Chair of the SunFest Committee “…I did get to catch your show, and it
was even better than expected!!”

Hailing from South Florida, Robin, mother of three children, and partner in life, love and music with her producer, keyboardist Paul Banman, is a rare artist, whose music and words offer images of what we want our lives to be, and who we aspire to become
Robin regularly appears on South Florida stages creating a vibe of excitement, warmth
and authenticity.

Building on her previous national radio airplay, Robin has returned to the recording studio creating a varied catalog of music dear to her heart which includes the new inspirational environmental track, Light The Way, smooth jazz instrumentals, rock tunes and covers from her favorite artists. She is currently working on a world music meditation CD.

Robin is an artist whose music and words paint wonderful images of what we want our lives to be, and who we aspire to become. This is truly an artist who will stand the test of time.
