Details:
The Cherry Flavored Elevator is made up of songwriter Dan Miraldi, 21, who is the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist, along with Sarah Luffred, 22, on the drums, Jon Wolf, 21, playing bass, and Jay Nemeyer, 21, as the lead guitarist. The band has been playing clubs and colleges around the Cleveland area since the fall of 2006, in addition to self-releasing two CD’s of homemade demos. In January of 2008, the group decided to take things to the next level by working with producer/engineer Tempest Christopher at the Pop Machine in Cuyahoga Falls to record their proper debut.

Their efforts led to the completion of the self-titled studio album, The Cherry Flavored Elevator. The record has a wide variety of songs, showcasing a plethora of musical influences. As a songwriter, Dan Miraldi is heavily influenced by the1960s music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, as well as newer bands such as the Format, Motion City Soundtrack and Green Day. Miraldi also takes cues from Cleveland-based bands such as the Raspberries and Trendy.

Playing through The Cherry Flavored Elevator’s tracks, the listener is greeted by a mixture fun rock n roll and power-pop songs such as “I Can’t Stop” and “My Dear Sophia”. These are followed by the acoustic-pop “More Than Yesterday” and the humorously spiteful rockabilly sound of “Build Your Own Girlfriend”. Most of the album’s subject matter deals with the good and bad aspects of love. However, with “The Protest Song”, the album is pushed into the darker political realm of post-9/11 America. Miraldi’s howling vocals and Nemeyer’s squealing guitar work add a vintage feel that gives nods to the protest music of the Vietnam era. The album closes on a warm note with the acoustic Beatlesque love song “Troubles Fade Away”.
