Details:
''Superstar'' compiles a collection of previously unreleased gems, giving a new dimension to The Godfather of Ska image, not only with the Ska and Reggae sound but also into Soul and Funk. So on, we can find ''Superstar'', a song that becomes highly nostalgic after Laurel Aitken''s death in 2005, with that mid-tempo soul taste. Also into the Soul culture we can find the stompers ''If You Need Good Loving Tonight'' and ''Dance To The Music'' or the romantic ''Ooh Baby''. And not very far of this Soul sound we can enjoy his Funky side with ''People Of The World Unite'' and ''María''. On the jamaican side we meet with Reggae and Rocksteady gems like ''Rum & Coconut Water'', a Rocksteady wich transports you directly to the Caribbean sea while ''Something''s Gotta Be Wrong'' is a Rockers Reggae with strong lirycs, same as with ''Down In Africa''. Still in the rebel Reggae we find a unique track, ''Who Sey'', with Laurel Aitken singing in “patois”, that dialect spoke between rastafaris. And we can’t forget ''Gloria'', a Rocksteady with that Godfather of Ska taste, an own style with wich Laurel drives the audience crazy.

Laurel Aitken died 17th. July 2005, just a few days before releasing this album, this one is the last project he was involved in before his death, a posthumous album, unfortunately.

Laurel Aitken (1925 - 2005) was borned in Cuba and moved with his family to Jamaica when he was 8 years old. At 12 he was singing Calypso and playing guitar for the tourists for tips. Being a teenager he won several local contests and later came his very first recordings, it was the Jazz, Boogie, R&B and Calypso era. Laurel was the protagonist of the born of Ska music, that jamaican flavoured Rhythm & Blues, of wich was later acclaimed as pioneer. The first hits and number ones started to grow for himslf in the island. Jamaican music was changing in the 60’s and the rhythm of Ska was becoming Rocksteady. Young followers and talents, like Bob Marley, were into his fans who waited after his shows for autographs. Laurel was always ruling and when he moved to London Reggae music was borned, it was 1969. The rest of Laurel’s life took part in the UK earning more hits and being one of the jamaican artists who played live more oftenly all around the world.
