Space Travel started out as an individual piece and turned out to be the catalyst for an entrie album. It began with the title track being composed for an out of print EP Puente. This piece stuck with me and forced me to sit down and do some serious composing with it.
I had been a guitar teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools from 2002 to 2007. I figured out it wasn''t my cup of tea when I found myself composing music at staff meetings. I have always know I was a musician. My favorite toy as a toddler was a plastic record player. I bought my first real album with my allowance when I was five. I wanted a guitar when I was seven, during high school it was an afro and a Stratocaster. During my twenties it turned into the blues. And now it is what it is.
So I found a church that I could record in for its acoustics and flare more than its comfort. It is an old adobe church that belongs to a family I know. Inside the church it would easily reach 100+ degrees with a fan blowing. People would come in and check just to make sure I was alive. I recorded a series of improvisations along with Space Travel which was starting to come tohgether really well at this point. I sat down to master it and before I had even finished the first song the computer crashed and I lost everything. I took this as a sign I had not risen to my full capability.
I spent the next few months composing for what follows. From July of 2007 to Feb. 2008 it was a lot of composing and a lot of torn up pieces of paper. Then one cold afternoon I sat down to do an improvisation for prepared guitar. I put alligator clips on the inner four strings of the guitar, tied a string of bells to the headstock, slapped a glass slide on my pinky finger and out came an Alien Abduction. This caused me to look to the night sky and write an album about music involving space. This is that music.
